๐ŸŒฟ Grace Court Welcomes Community Health Leaders to the Hibiscus Room! ๐ŸŒฟ

Today, Grace Court was pleased to host the Frontline Innovators of Structural Health Knowledge Translation Event, bringing together researchers, health professionals, community advocates, and local leaders to discuss community mobilization, health equity, and advocacy in Peel Region.

Our Hibiscus Room was transformed into a collaborative learning space where participants shared ideas, explored solutions, and strengthened partnerships aimed at improving health outcomes across our community.

We are especially proud that Grace Court continues to serve not only as a home for seniors but also as a gathering place where important conversations and community-building take place.

Thank you to the organizers, presenters, and attendees for choosing Grace Court as your venue. We hope your discussions inspire meaningful action and lasting impact throughout Peel Region.

๐ŸŽ‰ Thank You for Helping Our Seniors Be Heard! ๐ŸŽ‰

Grace Court extends our heartfelt thanks to the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation (BACCF) and the Rotary Club of Bramalea for their generous grant to install a new sound system in our Hibiscus Room.

For many of our seniors, hearing clearly during social events, educational programs, wellness activities, and community gatherings can make all the difference. This new sound system will help ensure that everyone can participate fully, stay connected, and enjoy the many activities that bring our community together.

Your support is helping create a more inclusive, engaging, and welcoming environment for the seniors who call Grace Court home.

Thank you for investing in the well-being and quality of life of older adults in our community. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’” Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sean & Alan Autry on the recent passing of their beloved mother, Dale Autry.

Dale was a cherished former resident of Grace Court Brampton and a faithful member of Grace United Church since 2019.

She passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16 at Credit Valley Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

May Daleโ€™s kind spirit and faithful service be remembered with love by all who knew her. Our deepest sympathies to Sean, Alan, and all their family during this difficult time.

Itโ€™s a real pleasure to recognize a true backbone of our community โ€” Berni Volkmann.
30 years of volunteering is amazing! For 15 of those years he served as Treasurer, always keeping things solid with his quiet dedication and care.
He also helped lead our big $2.5 million refurbishment 10 years ago, which still makes Grace Court such a great home today.
None of it wouldโ€™ve happened without the support of his wonderful wife, who shared him with us for all those years.
Berni, thank you for your steady commitment over 30 years.

๐ŸŒŸ London Fire Highlights Urgent Need for Sprinkler Retrofits in Older Buildings

Early this morning, a fire broke out in a 12-storey public housing building in London, Ontario. The fire started in one sixth-floor unit and was contained there, but heavy smoke spread across the entire floor. Nine residents were hospitalized, including an infant in critical condition.

Reports do not mention any sprinkler system activating โ€” something very common in Ontario buildings constructed before modern fire codes required them.

Here at Grace Court in Brampton, we face the same reality. As a 65-unit affordable seniors residence serving low- and middle-income seniors for over 40 years, we recently received a $2.4 million quote to install a sprinkler system. This is a cost our non-profit simply cannot cover without significant government support.

Sprinklers save lives by controlling fires early, reducing smoke and heat, and giving residents precious time to evacuate. Our seniors deserve this basic level of protection.

We respectfully call on all levels of government โ€” federal, provincial, and municipal โ€” to provide targeted funding for sprinkler retrofits in older affordable and seniors housing. Prevention is far better than reacting after tragedy strikes.
