Well – this might be a first!

As of August 17, there are zero wildfires burning in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. This is the first time we have recorded a wildfire-free day in August in the last 40 years.

As Alberta experiences the wettest summer on record, we have been able to send firefighters and wildfire support staff to assist where they're needed most.

We’re monitoring conditions and remain ready to respond if warmer weather brings new wildfires.

Be sure to check the Alberta Wildfire dashboard for the location and details of any active wildfires across the province.

Due to improving conditions, Rocky View County Fire Services has lifted its Fire Advisory for all regions of Rocky View County. Effective immediately, there are no fire advisories or bans in the County, and permit burning is allowed.

We will continue to monitor conditions and fire risk throughout the County and may update the status as needed.

Although conditions have changed with the recent precipitation, we ask for the public’s continued assistance in remaining vigilant when burning under what restrictions allow. If conditions change, the County will continue to assess the fire risk and may impose a fire ban at any time.

Please note that while the Fire Advisory has been lifted in Rocky View County, there may still be advisories or bans in neighbouring municipalities. For information on fire bans and advisories in other areas of the province, visit: https://albertafirebans.ca/

Off-highway vehicles (OHV) have exhaust systems that get hotter than 200°C. At these temperatures, built-up material and debris can heat up, smoulder and inadvertently ignite a wildfire.

If you plan on using an OHV in the Forest Protection Area, remember to stop often and check for hot spots.

Alberta Wildfire is sending support south of the border to fight wildfires in the U.S.

Over the weekend, 11 wildfire personnel will travel to Oregon. Twelve more, including two crews of firefighters will be sent to Washington.

The wildfire conditions across Alberta continue to remain at a lower risk, allowing us to send resources where they’re needed.
