Don’t flush your live pet fish or release them into rivers, streams, lakes, ponds or storm drains.

Instead return to a pet store or find a new owner.

Goldfish might seem harmless, but they are an incredibly destructive invasive aquatic species and pose significant risks to native ecosystems when left unchecked.

Call 1-855-336-BOAT to report any sightings and, where possible, provide a clear photo showing the fish’s entire body and fins for staff follow up.

LIVING SAFELY IN BEAR COUNTRY: 2022 BRAGG CREEK CAUTIONARY TALE AND BEARSMART TIPS

Some of you may remember a sad incident in the summer of 2022 involving a mama bear and her three cubs in Bragg Creek. The mama bear became habituated to household refuse and, shortly after, was killed because she was deemed a threat to humans. Her three cubs vanished in the forest, and to this date we do not know what happened to them, although it was unlikely they could survive their first winter on their own. All this to say that although it is a privilege to see such magnificent wildlife where we live, it is very concerning when they keep reappearing and checking out homes. Each visit reduces the likelihood that these bears will emerge unharmed.

Redwood Meadows developed a garbage bylaw many years ago following similar incidents. Several sightings of a mama bear and her cubs have been reported in Redwood over the past few days - and eerie "deja-vu". Make sure there are no food attractants around your home (dirty BBQ, compost, pet food, unprotected chicken, bees, vegetable garden, bird feeders, etc).

And if you are in a safe place (i.e. inside your home) when bears inspect your property, please make noise to scare them away using, for example, pots and pans or a bear horn. Doing so will help prevent negative wildlife-human encounters and keep you (and your neighbours) safe.
