🌱 HOPE GROWS: Science • Nature • Resiliency 🌱

Join the Canadian Ecology Centre as we celebrate resiliency and National Take Me Outside Week with a special fall event inspired by the theme “Hope Grows.”

One year after the devastating June 2025 downburst storm, we’re continuing to learn from the land, document its recovery, and reconnect with the natural world. 🍂🌲

🔬 CITIZEN SCIENCE DAYS — FREE!
📅 Thursday, October 22 & Friday, October 23

We need your help! Let’s make a difference.

Be part of real and meaningful citizen science as we collect data to document the growth, regeneration and changes taking place on the land following the June 2025 storm.

🌲 RETREAT WEEKEND
📅 Friday, October 23 – Sunday, October 25

Enjoy a FREE weekend retreat WITH a cabin rental (families/kids welcome)
Saturday afternoon passes are also available for purchase

As the land prepares to slumber and heal during another winter’s rest, we invite you to slow down, reconnect and learn from the natural world.

Throughout the weekend, experience:

🍃 Science, nature connection & land-based healing
🔬 Citizen science and hands-on learning
🌎 Workshops & science presentations
💚 Eco-grief support
🌲 Intentional time outdoors
🤝 Guest experts, professionals & community supporters
🍂 Opportunities for observation, discovery and reflection

Come explore how hope grows — in our forests, in our communities and in our relationship with the land.

💚 All event proceeds support the CEC’s Educational Foundation, helping provide school trip subsidies and summer camp bursaries.

Another great issue coming soon to your mailbox! 😄

The Fall 2026 issue of The Ontario Woodlander magazine is off to the printer and will be distributed to members later this month!

This issue focuses on the importance of habitat connectivity and ecological corridors. OWA President Colleen Drew-Baehre says, "Private woodlot owners contribute tremendously to the continuity of woodlands and wetlands that allow wildlife to move freely across the landscape."🦌

Several articles in this issue feature a project funded with support from the Greenbelt Foundation, in which the OWA and Kawartha Land Trust partnered to restore a rare tallgrass prairie along the Oak Ridges Moraine. 🌾

Our Summer 2026 issue features articles from the Ontario Woodlot Association’s counterpart organizations across the country, through our membership with Canadian Forest Owners (CFO). 🍁🌲

As a national federation, CFO advocates for approximately 480,000 private forest landowners, promoting sustainable forest management, biodiversity, and climate change action.

CFO members include families, businesses, and Indigenous groups who collectively manage about 25 million hectares of private land, accounting for close to 20% of Canada's forest production.

We’re looking forward to sharing special national issue with OWA members and with all our counterpart organizations nationwide. 📧
