Dragonfly Theatre Company

Dragonfly Theatre Company We are a not for profit amateur theatre company in Muskoka. At that time in Muskoka, two new theatres were being built, in Bracebridge and Huntsville.

Dragonfly Theatre Company was the brainchild of Prudence Donaldson, David Eardley and Emma Phillips after they had worked together in Alan Ayckbourn's "Norman Conquests". They all thought it was rare to work with amateur actors who share the same commitment and dedication and still have a great time. With the three co-founders being of British extraction, they decided to concentrate on British pla

ys in the beginning. One of the most important aspects for the trio was to maintain as high an acting standard as possible, whilst introducing younger actors to the local theatre world. Dragonfly felt it was important for them to continue to support the Gravenhurst Opera House, as it has huge historical significance in the area and was their "home" and they knew it would be facing much more competition in the future. So they started a dinner theatre in the Trillium Court of the Opera House and produced at least one play a summer, plus the odd fall production, for ten years. In recent years the Opera House has changed its focus to more of a professional summer season and Dragonfly lost its place. So in 2017 they are refocusing and trying a new venue: the Quality Inn (formerly the Riverside Inn) in Bracebridge. Dragonfly continues to aim for the highest quality amateur productions and works as a not for profit community organization. Dragonfly offers bursaries to local youth to pursue education in any of the performing arts.
