Wow! what a fantastic night we had with Nick Booker from All Those Who Wander. Three hours of non stop, foot-tapping tunes including Harry Glasson's Cornwall My Home and Camborne Hill, Lamorna, Little Lize, Home for Flora, Black Velvet Band, Kerra Kernow, Oggy Oggy Oggy (very loudly. I think we scared a few people!) and the unofficial Cornish anthem, Trelawny (see Trelawny Shout.) "Yeghes da!" "Sláinte!"
..and thank you to Walsh's Snug for adding the delicious Cornish pasties to your menu just for us!

It’s St Piran’s Day, the national day of Cornwall!

Saint Piran, patron saint of tin miners, is said to have discovered the precious metal tin after seeing it flow from black Cornish rock; hence the famous black-and-white Cornish flag.

Legend has it he was thrown into the sea from Ireland, tied to a millstone, yet miraculously floated to Cornwall, landing near Perranporth. He built a chapel in the sand, preached to all (including a few lucky badgers), and became Cornwall’s beloved saint.

Today, St Piran’s Day is marked with parades, music, and a good old Cornish knees-up. And, if the old saying “drunk as a Perraner” is anything to go by, there may be a few sore heads tomorrow!
