The Heart - A Gathering Place

The Heart - A Gathering Place Boswell Historical Society Anselm’s Church and property. The Directors of the BHS hope that their initiative to purchase the beautiful and historic St.

At our 2021 Annual General Meeting members of the Boswell Historical Society passed a motion to enter into negotiations with the Anglican Diocese of the Kootenay to purchase St. After several months of negotiation, in March 2022 we successfully reached an agreement with the Diocese. We welcome you to our Society should you want to become a member (annual $5/person, $10/family, or $50 for a family

life membership), and if you are prepared to make an individual donation to support the purchase of St. Anselm's you can do so through (cash or cheques made out to the Treasurer, Boswell Historical Society, 12637 Hwy 3A, Boswell V0B 1A4) or through an e-transfer to [email protected]. Please be sure to include your contact information (email address and/or mobile phone number) with your donation. Anselm’s Church property meets with the approval and applause of residents of Boswell and others along the East Shore. We also hope that you will open your hearts and donate to the cause and/or to participate in our various fund-raising initiatives. All contributions will be greatly appreciated. Please share your vision for future community use of The Heart - A Gathering Place.

🍓The Heritage Tea will be the second fundraiser this season in support of the lower-level renovations at The Heart. The Plant and Bake Sale in May was a successful event, and the Board of Directors of the Boswell Historical Society is very grateful for the support of the Boswell community.

🍓With the help of a recently awarded Contribution Grant from the Columbia Basin Trust and a Gleaners Disbursement Grant, we plan to complete the renovations in the coming months. Under Jerry Bischler’s leadership, we will rebuild and improve the entranceway to the lower level and add cabinets and counters for storage and food preparation. By the end of the summer, we hope to have a fully functional small meeting and museum space for the use and enjoyment of all members of the community.

🍓We look forward to seeing many of you at The Heart on Sunday!

💙You are invited to join our final Health Talk before taking a break for the summer 💙

1:00 – 2:00pm

Chronic Disease Management Nurse, Interior Health
Environmental Impacts on our Physical and Mental Health
You are invited to join our final Health Talk before taking a break for the summer. This month Diane Burnett - Boswell’s nurse from Interior Health - will be leading a discussion on timely and important topics that relate to health and the environment. Who is most vulnerable to wildfire smoke and how can we stay safe? What are the health risks of poor water quality and contaminants in rural communities like ours? We are living with environmental changes that have both physical and psychological health effects. Let’s talk about “climate anxiety” and “eco-grief” and share our coping strategies.
Diane provides both excellent paper and online resources. We keep extra copies of resource materials from past sessions in the Boswell Hall (in a hanging file near the bulletin board) and we can also provide access to online resources for a range of health-related topics!
Let’s Talk Health workshops emphasize health promotion and disease prevention by sharing cutting edge research on timely health-related topics with an emphasis on good nutrition, regular exercise of the body and the mind, and effective stress management strategies. Sponsored by the East Shore Kootenay Lake Health Society and by Interior Health.

Just a reminder that our Friday Morning Garden Share (10a.m. – 12p.m.) begins this week, May 29, and will continue weekly throughout the summer, weather permitting. 🌻🌻🌻
Our Plant and Bake Sale on May 16 was a wonderful success, but we still have plenty of tomato plants to share with the community. If you have space in your garden or on your deck for a couple of beautiful, fully hardened-off tomato plants, please stop by! We’ll also have a few other bedding plants and some early produce available. 🪴🪴🪴
And since it’s rhubarb and haskap season, there may even be a few fresh fruit tarts to enjoy with your morning coffee.
If you’re in the neighbourhood, we’d love to see you. And as always, feel free to bring along anything from your garden that you’d like to share with others. 🪏🪏🪏

Please come by The Heart 💜 on Saturday May 16 - anytime between 10:00am and 2:00pm for our first fundraiser of the season!

With the help of a recently awarded Gleaners Disbursement Grant, we hope to finish in the coming months the renovations to the lower level of The Heart so that it is fully functional as a small museum and meeting space. Under Jerry Bischler's leadership, we are planning to rebuild and improve the entranceway to the lower level and add cabinets and counters for storage and food preparation.

The Plant and Bake Sale on Saturday May 16th is our first fundraiser in support of the lower level renovations. There will be a variety of home-grown bedding plants and home-baked goods for sale - and fresh coffee and baking to enjoy during the event! We will set up indoors if it rains on Saturday - so please plan to attend, rain or shine! ☀️

We look forward to seeing many of you at The Heart 💜 on Saturday!

Book Launch at The Heart: (tomorrow) Friday, April, 24 at 4pm

Hi everyone,
You are invited to a special event at The Heart tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.

Luanne Armstrong's most recently edited book, Dancing on Mountains: Women of the Kootenay, will be celebrated and launched. Luanne will be in attendance to tell you a little about her new publication, and Luanne, Yvette Schenkel, and Paula Snow will read selections from the book... and "share stories that embody the spirit of the Kootenays".

The Boswell Historical Society will be providing light refreshments. There will be books available for purchase.

In Luanne's words, "Dancing on Mountains is a celebration of the brilliant, radical essence of the women of the Kootenays."

We welcome your attendance!
