Did you know that foaming on the surface of lakes and streams is often a naturally occurring phenomenon and not a result of environmental pollution?

💧 Foam formation is common in water with high organic content, such as productive lakes and darker-coloured streams originating from wetlands or woody areas.

💧 Aquatic plants naturally die and decompose in lakes, releasing organic material such as oils which float to the surface. Wind and wave action push the oils along the shoreline where turbulence introduces air into the organically enriched water forming bubbles.

💧 Slimy foam in water may be caused by pollution especially if near a potential pollution site or if its formation does not align with wind or turbulence direction.

Applications are open to apply for a Private Road Grant! 📣

Some roads in the Municipality of Trent Lakes are not municipally owned or maintained. To offer support, we assist eligible private road associations with capital improvements and maintenance costs through the Private Road Grant Program.

The grant can cover costs related to:

• road grading
• snow plowing
• tree removal and trimming
• noxious w**d control
• gravel
• dust control
• roadside mowing
• road drainage
• road reconstruction
• road surfacing

The due date for the application is September 30 each year. Funds will be awarded the following spring for successful applicants.

As of July 14, 2026, the Trent Lakes Grass and Forest Fire Index is set to HIGH. 🟠

A High Danger Rating means forest fuels are very dry and the fire risk is serious. New fires may start easily, burn vigorously, and challenge fire suppression efforts. Extreme caution must be used in any burning activities. Open-air burning is discouraged.

Please remember there is no daytime burning between the hours of 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Here’s a fun fact about KLT’s Christie Bentham Wetland near Burleigh Falls! This property features over 1,200 feet of natural, undisturbed waterfront on Clear Lake. Natural shorelines are important for erosion control, biodiversity, and flood control.

There’s a great lookout spot on the Blue Trail where you can witness the beauty of the wetland and maybe see a few neat species.

We’re grateful to the donors and volunteers who made the protection of this beautiful place possible in 2020.
