Adventure for Wilderness – Grassy Mountain and the Threat of Coal
with Nicole Olivier (Y2Y) and AWA Conservation Specialists

June 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Near Frank, AB
(meeting details emailed to participants a few days before event)

Difficulty: Very strenuous (600m elevation gain over 4 km)

Join us for a steep but rewarding hike in the vicinity of the proposed Grassy Mountain coal mine. From our vantage we will be able to see Grassy Mountain, as well as a significant portion of the Oldman watershed that will be impacted if the mine is approved. If you want to be able to speak out against this project, but aren’t quite sure how, then this is the adventure for you! There is nothing like being on the ground and seeing a place with your own eyes to really drive home the ramifications of what will be lost. Nicole and our conservation specialists will provide context and discuss the impacts of this particular mine, as well as the cumulative effects of other land uses including logging on this already stressed watershed. Bring your questions and a pair of strong legs for a day of spectacular views and engaging, informative conversations.

Join us in Taber for a day of all things grasslands! Did you know that 2026 is the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists?
