As per Alberta Forestry and Parks:

Notification of Planned Closure - Dutch Creek Road

Please be advised, Alberta Forestry and Parks will be undertaking construction on Dutch Creek Road, within the Livingstone Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ). The project involves replacement of failed culverts and requires a road closure of approximately 1 โ€“ 2 weeks. The closure will affect 8 km of Dutch Creek Road, from Forestry Trunk Road to Caesar Flats. We expect work will take place between August 15 โ€“ September 1, 2026, due to watercourse timing restrictions.

This information is intended to provide stakeholders advance notice of anticipated closure of Dutch Creek Road. When final construction dates are determined, you will receive updated information and closure details.

The Government of Canada has announced an extension of the amnesty period for fi****ms prohibited under the 2020, 2024 and 2025 Orders in Council.

The amnesty will now remain in effect until 90 days after the Supreme Court of Canada issues its decision in the appeal challenging the May 2020 fi****ms prohibition.

According to Public Safety Canada, the extension is intended to provide certainty to affected fi****ms owners and businesses while the Supreme Court hears the case.

The federal government has also stated that this change does not affect the Assault-Style Fi****ms Compensation Program, which is expected to be completed by October 2026.

We encourage members to review the Government of Canada announcement and stay informed as the legal process continues.

The ABA would like to thank all those folks who let their thoughts be known through respectful direct engagement, letters, and emails.

We encourage those who sent messages to also send a message to Thank the Minister and various Branch members for listening.

Hats off to all the people who took the time to let the Minister and his team know how they felt about these changes. It is important for everyone (government and stakeholders) to hear from the general/average hunter as their opinions and concerns are extremely valuable and meaningful. Their input had a huge impact on this postponement and will also have a huge impact on the decisions that come from the future discussions. Hopefully you all realize the value and power you have as an individual and continue to let the Minister and folks at the Hunting & Fishing Branch know what you would like to see happen moving forward.

As these discussions move along, the ABA will advise everyone on their progress.

Become a member today and stay on top of all of the things the ABA does!

Alberta Forestry and Parks has rescinded several changes that were originally announced in the 2026 Alberta Hunting Draws Booklet.

While people may have differing views on how wildlife management should be handled in Alberta, there should be broad agreement that stronger and more meaningful consultation with hunters is essential.

One of the best ways to be part of that conversation is by joining your local fish and game association and adding your voice.
