Home To Stay Dog Rescue

Home To Stay Dog Rescue A rescue devoted to providing a safe haven for abandoned dogs, where we can assess their individual needs to find them the perfect home and family in NS.

At Home to Stay dog rescue, we would like to do whatever we can to help dogs in need. We are a small volunteer, foster based, all-breed rescue with the goal of working with other like-minded rescues for the ultimate benefit of the animals. Dogs will be cared for like our own until matches with appropriate and loving adoptive homes are made for each. We are a Non Profit Organization and all proceed

s raised will go directly to benefit the dogs while in the care of Home To Stay Dog Rescue. There are many dog rescues currently operating and yet the need is still overwhelming. We would like to step forward and help those that have nowhere else to go. Not by breed but by need, this is where we feel we can make a difference. You can make a difference as well, if you can foster you can help, if you can't foster you could share our page and help us get the word out. We need donations of any dog related items such as blankets, beds, crates, quality food and snacks, leashes, collars or toys and funds to assist in Vet care. Volunteers are needed in many roles, from transport to vet care to home visits and fund raising. We would love to have any help that you can offer. The more people that care enough to help, the more dogs we can save and re-home.

Fireworks explode like magnified gunfire in the exquisitely sensitive ears of many of our pets.

Measuring between 150 and 175 decibels, fireworks are louder than gunfire (140 decibels) and even many planes at takeoff (120 decibels). Decibels measures the loudness of a sound while hertz measures the frequency of a sound.

Human ears are damaged at a mere 85 decibels. Yet we can hear to only about 20,000 hertz, while dogs can hear between 45,000 and 65,000 hertz. Just think of the physical and emotional damage that might occur to a dog left outside to face the noise.

According to statistics, animal control officials across the country see a 30–60% increase in lost pets each year between July fourth and sixth. In fact, July fifth is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters. - The American Animal Hospital Association

Sadly, only 14% of lost pets are returned to their owners, according to nationwide statistics. And worse, 30-60% of lost pets are euthanized because they cannot be properly identified and returned to their owners.- PetAmberAlert

Don’t get me wrong, we are ALL FOR FREEDOM, but excruciatingly loud sounds that incite PTSD do NOT represent freedom, they represent ignorance and a lack of empathy for all those so profoundly damaged by them.

💕A special Courtesy Post to follow. Please read and share, and contact us if you are interested in long term, expenses paid fostering for Georgia 💗
We will put you in touch with the kind couple who are friends of her adoptive Mom and are currently providing loving care to Georgia.

“. *** Georgia is a happy and healthy senior who needs a long term foster: loves to walk, good on a leash, housetrained, no destructive behaviour, no separation anxiety, good in car, no cats. Can be bossy with other dogs inside the home, great with all dogs in neutral areas. Please note : All of Georgia’s care expenses will be covered. ***

Georgia bio:
Age: 10_ S*x: F_spayed_ Dob: Nov. 18, 2014 Breed: smaller black lab-mix
Microchipped? yes
Vet Clinic: Fall river Animal Hospital, Vet: Dr. Leila McIntyre
Meals per day? twice One cup dry mixed with some wet (Georgia turns her nose up at dry food but mix a little wet in there and she is a good eater). She does not beg for food and is not a counter surfer. She takes her treats with a very gentle mouth.
What type of food? Performatrin Ultra (kibble and wet) available at PetValu
Please list any medical conditions: None
Weight: Georgia is a compact 36-40 pounds
Flea and Tick protected?- Nexgard Spectra, one tablet per month
Ok with nails being clipped (by groomer)? Yes, really good. Her nails are quite long. It is essential that they be trimmed on a regular basis for her comfort. She is also good with baths, too: give her a lot of treats, she’s fine.
Typically sleep where? On human’s bed or dog bed. If you sleep in, so will she!
Reactive to other dogs? Georgia is used to doggy daycare, and is friendly and playful. When a dog guest is in her home, she gets jealous when they receive human attention. This can be managed, but her new family needs to be present and mindful. She settles down after that initial meeting and will get along. We take Georgia’s chew bone away when other dogs are present, to keep everyone calm. She is fine with humans around her food but not other dogs (resource guarding). If she were to live with another dog, an initial meet and greet and trial period are essential. They could not be fed together.
Prey drive: Reactive to cats/squirrels, etc.? Yes, when on leash, she will lunge but can be easily redirected.
Leash pulling? Initially, but only because she is excited, she loves her walks. She quickly settles and is a great walker. Her harness has a back clip to prevent neck strain and she walks very well. We walk her 3 times per day, about 6 kms. total. She loves it, keeping her fit and her weight controlled. Her walks are a big sniff a thon. She wants to meet dogs and people.
Any separation anxiety when left alone? None
Behaviour during thunder storms/fireworks? She’s a little nervous.
Any destructive behaviour, like chewing? None. She can be trusted with open laundry hampers, shoes, etc.
Favourite toy? Antler.
When for treats? When she comes in from her walk, after her paws are wiped (During tick season, I lint roller her body after walks, she is very patient and tolerant).
Enjoy being brushed? yes
Typically, how many bowel movements per day? Two (she is very regular)
Housebroken? Yes
Any anxiety or car sickness while travelling? No. Good in car.
Bite history? No. Georgia is a happy, gentle, and well mannered girl.
Behaviour with children: She greets very excitedly and jumps up. She may knock a smaller child down. Over 5 years of age should be okay.
Vaccines: Georgia is up to date on all her core shots as well as Bordetella and leptospirosis.
Barking: She is a very quiet girl. However, she barks at outside noises. Her foster parents live beside a walking trail. When the windows are open, Georgia patrols around inside and sounds the alert to all. She would be best suited to a fully detached home (no apts. or townhomes).

Background: Georgia was brought up from the U.S. in 2020, and adopted by her mom. (We have all her original health records and related documents). Due to her mom’s medical diagnosis, her adoptive mom has made the heartbreaking decision that it’s best for Georgia to be rehomed in a long term foster setting. She has been a well cared for and well loved dog and that is reflected in her disposition. She has been with her foster parents since February and has settled in very well. She is a very happy and loving dog, she loves being touched, especially bum scratches!
Georgia currently resides in Hammonds Plains and she would love a meet and greet and walk with interested potential long term fosters. “

Meet Dolly - our bouncy boxer! 🐶

Dolly is a loving and energetic 1 year old female boxer. She’s a bundle of puppy energy and loves to bounce around chasing her favourite toys. She’s a sweet girl who gets along well with new people and other dogs, but has not been tested around cats.

She has plenty of energy to burn and loves going for long walks – she is looking for an active home that can fit her high energy level.

Dolly does have food allergies and is on a hydrolyzed diet to manage them. She is currently working on housetraining and is learning not to jump up on people in excitement.

**** Courtesy Post. We haven’t met this lovely girl. If you think you may be her perfect adoptive match, please contact Silvia Jay, as noted in the write up. Otherwise please share on to help Mia find her new loving home. ****

“ Mia needs new digs because of her people’s life circumstances. She is in NB, in the Moncton area.

Her breeder was contacted and is not in the business of breeding any longer. ( There is no contract that stipulates that Mia has to go back to the breeder as is sometimes the case. )

Mia is six years old, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, no present health issues and no allergies.
She is crate trained, and goes to the groomer fine.

Likes people and lives with two small children, but breed-typically barks when a visitor arrives. It can be intimidating but she does like people. Reportedly, but also when I last saw her.

Mia is reactive to dogs. Can go to small daycare where she is occasionally boarded, but is bossy there too. All I know. But it again sounds very breed typical.

If you know someone who might be interested, please pm Silvia Jay or email at [email protected]. I will privately forward the owner’s contact info. “
