Life after brain injury can feel isolating.

Many survivors share that one of the hardest parts is feeling misunderstood, disconnected, or alone after their injury.

That’s why support matters.

At the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia, we offer support groups, educational programming, peer connection, and navigation services to help individuals and families access resources such as counselling, legal support, and community services.

Connection can make a powerful difference in recovery.

No one should have to navigate brain injury alone — and with the right support, they don’t have to.

We were honoured to be joined by members of the community, coming together to recognize and support those affected by brain injury. A special thank you to the Deputy Mayor for delivering a powerful reading of the proclamation and helping mark the importance of this month.

Together, we raise awareness, reduce stigma, and build a more supportive community.

🧠 June is Brain Injury Awareness Month.

Brain injury is often called the “invisible injury” — but its impact across Nova Scotia is very real.

More than 70,000 Nova Scotians are living with the effects of acquired brain injury, with roughly 17,000 new injuries occurring each year.

Brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time — through stroke, falls, concussions, motor vehicle accidents, overdose, illness, and more.

Many survivors may “look fine” while facing challenges with memory, fatigue, concentration, mood, and everyday tasks that others may not see. That invisibility can lead to stigma and misunderstanding.

This month, we’re coming together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind survivors and families that they are not alone.

💙 Because invisible doesn’t mean insignificant.

👉 Follow our page throughout June for information, resources, and ways to get involved and show your support.
