What an incredible evening celebrating salmon, conservation, and collaboration.

Congratulations to Saumon Québec on the outstanding film “What If We Listened to the Salmon” and thank you for bringing this inspiring film to Halifax. The powerful stories and messages shared throughout the evening reminded us all why wild Atlantic Salmon are worth fighting for and how much can be achieved when passionate people come together around a common purpose.

We were especially proud to see our own Amy Weston, and NSSA’s work featured in the documentary and joining the discussion panel, sharing her experience, insight, and dedication to salmon conservation alongside fellow advocates from across the region.

Events like this reinforce the strong connections between salmon organizations, communities, and conservation leaders. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and a collective vision for the future, we are building a stronger voice for wild Atlantic salmon.

Thank you again to Saumon Québec for creating such a meaningful film and for fostering an evening that celebrated not only salmon, but the people and partnerships working to protect them.

Together, we are stronger for salmon.

WILD SALMON DAY

All in for Wild Salmon.

Over the past 25 years, the Nova Scotia Salmon Association with our affiliates have…

Restored 3.3 million square metres of Salmon habitat
Planted 175,000 stream side trees
Enhanced 650 kilometres of river
Contributed 140,000 volunteer hours

We do it for the fish. The watersheds. And our communities of anglers and conservationists.

Join the NSSA for free, and count yourself as one of the stewards of Nova Scotia’s Wild Atlantic Salmon.

Conservation work doesn’t start in the field.

It starts with people who care enough to learn, study, and dedicate themselves to protecting wild places and native species.
The NSSA Annual Scholarship is now open for applications.

We’re proud to support students pursuing environmental and conservation-related studies here in Nova Scotia with a
$2,500 scholarship.

Applications close June 12, 2026

Our focus is simple:
Healthy rivers, resilient watersheds, and native species that thrive.

It takes passion. It takes science. And it takes showing up, again and again, to restore and protect our watersheds.

Because once these places are gone, we don’t get them back easily.

Get outside today. And know there are people working year-round to keep it worth exploring.

That’s what Earth Day is about.

Being on the water during a hatch is an awesome moment for the trout angler.

The first rising fish, then another. Keyed in on a particular insect and the matching pattern in your Flybox.

When the insects show up, trout start looking up.
Our Nova Scotia hatch chart is back — a simple guide to what’s coming off, and when.

A small window into what’s happening on the water, and what trout are feeding on.

When your favourite hatch is on, drop everything and get out there!

“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.”
- Nelson Mandela

Cold hands. Colder water. Good friends. Hot coffee.
Opening day of trout season is a tradition for many.
Enjoy the day, and the promise of all the fishing days ahead.
