Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We are grateful to Talia Metuq, an Inuit Cultural Advisor at Ampere, for allowing us to share her work.
Last year Talia collected handprints from Ampere staff and their families, to bring her poster of mother and child to life. Her efforts wove community and creativity into one to create a beautiful poster.
"As an Inuk, this day is deeply personal.
It's a time to honour Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and reflect on our shared responsibility to protect future generations.
This poster features a mother and child, a symbol of love, family, and the strength that residential schools could not erase. The handprints around them represent the generations we’re working to protect.
We carry these truths with us, always."
Our Makerspaces in Iqaluit and Bathurst, as well as our head office in Lindsay will be closed. Our Kawartha Lakes Makerspace is open for STEAM School and after school programming. We'll be sharing partner resources on our story. Please visit the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation's website for opportunities to learn and reflect: https://trw-svr.nctr.ca/
