Navy League of Canada - Barrie Branch

07/20/2026

On behalf of the Barrie Navy League & Sea Cadets as well as the Navy League of Canada - Barrie Branch we want to say a huge THANK YOU to our supporters & the community. Because of your generous donations, we have been able to replace our coyote decoy & complete some repairs on our damaged boats 💕 …stay tuned for a name announcement once our cadets have an opportunity to vote

If you haven’t seen the posts making the rounds in some Barrie groups, we believe our coyote decoy was taken from the end of our dock some time between Friday afternoon & Monday afternoon

Here are a few important facts…

1. The decoy coyote at the end of the dock is sold at most outdoor stores, Home Depot, etc..it is effective in keeping large birds off the dock which then significantly reduces the amount of bird excrement on said dock

2. It has been there for years and the purpose is to keep the young people we support safe while developing valuable skills in our program. By keeping the large birds off the dock, there is less p**p (which is a health & slipping hazard) and also allows our volunteers to make the best use of the time they have to teach sailing to our cadets but now they need to spend time scrubbing to dock to make it safe.

3. We are a registered charity that has been active in Barrie for more that 80 years. We do not charge for our programs, do not have any paid staff (only volunteers), and rely solely on community fundraising & awareness to continue to offer the program to youth in our communities

4. The cost to replace it is approximately $100+ which is roughly the value of half of a full cadet uniform.

We are very sad that some members of our community appeared offended by something that has kept our cadets safer for years & even more sad that someone felt the need to take it.

For those who have been asking, we have included our donation link for anyone who would like to support a purchase of a new coyote. (Any funds raised over and above the cost of the decoy will be 100% put back in to our cadet programs.

Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community, supporters, donors, volunteers, business owners and cadet families, we are thrilled to announce that we raised OVER $16,000 during our Spring Tagging Fundraiser!

Your support directly helps provide meaningful experiences, leadership opportunities, training, uniforms, and activities for our cadets. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the continued encouragement from our families and community partners.

To everyone who donated, shared our fundraiser, volunteered their time, or stopped by to support us — THANK YOU. Your kindness and generosity make a tremendous difference.

We are incredibly proud to be part of such a supportive community.

From all of us at the Navy League of Canada – Barrie Branch, thank you for helping us invest in the next generation of leaders. 💙
