The very inspiring Nicole of Rivendell Books is back at it! There is no lack of connecting the dots here – Nicole knows the value of reading, especially the comfort of reading. But what if you can’t read? Or can’t read for the pure joy of it? Maybe not reading and comprehending is why you can’t get a driver’s license, read warning labels, or apply for that job you know to be a perfect fit. The support Barrie Literacy Council, a local charity, receives from the Retro Book Fair is testament to how well Nicole connects the dots. Being grateful is a given; for our adult students reading is a game changer.

When we asked Johnathon what surprised him the most about his time at the BLC, his response was, “how quick my math jumped.”

He remembers math being his biggest frustration growing up...the ripped up papers, storming out, the feeling that it just wasn’t for him.

🤝 Then he met his instructor, Sarah, and his tutor, Eric.

Together, they broke down concepts and made math make sense.

David came into the BLC hoping to swap muscle for mindset…and he’s proved it’s never too late to change what “hard work” looks like.
