Hello everyone, and welcome to our Barrie P.O.D. We hope it will be the first of many across our country, but I’m getting ahead of myself...
During a stint with a local “charity” (which shall remain nameless) for the disabled a colleague and I noticed a niche within our community that just wasn’t being filled. We have all kinds of charities for people with disabilities, but not once had anyone mentioned the PARENTS of children with disabilities. Where were their support groups, where were their events and socials? We looked around, and the answer was NOWHERE. Nowhere in Simcoe County could we find a charitable group that was concerned with the needs of the parents raising children (of ANY age) with disabilities. So we decided to start one!
Our vision for P.O.D is that it become the hub for support groups and social activities for parents of children with disabilities. We are just getting our feet wet, so we welcome suggestions and input from anyone raising a child with ANY disability.
