The Busby Centre continues to make an incredible impact by providing essential services and support to individuals experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, and other challenges in our community.

💙 What's Your Why? Let's hear from Robyn.

Robyn has been volunteering with her organization for the past 2½ years, but her volunteer journey began when she was just 12 years old.

Working at Camphill inspired Robyn to find a way to support the organization outside of her regular work. For her, volunteering is a simple act that helps strengthen the programs and opportunities available to the individuals Camphill supports.

Over the years, volunteering has shaped much more than Robyn’s community involvement. It has helped shape who she is, teaching her the importance of community, compassion, and helping others, while creating opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with people from all walks of life.

And the impact can be seen in the details. Funds raised through Camphill’s volunteer efforts go directly toward programming, including materials such as clay for pottery; giving individuals a creative way to express themselves.

“Even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.”

💙 What's Your Why? Let's hear from Ellen.

Meet Ellen, who has been volunteering with her organization since 2015.

Ellen first got involved by helping out at the Royal Canadian Legion , eventually becoming a member of the executive and continuing her work with the organization for many years.

For Ellen, volunteering is a simple but meaningful way to give back to the community. Along the way, it has also given her the opportunity to meet new people and build connections.

Her volunteer efforts help support an organization that provides funding to other community organizations, creating a ripple effect that helps ensure valuable services are available to community members.

“It is a means of giving back to the community.”

💙 What's Your Why? Let's hear from Deb.

Since September 2024, Deb has been proudly volunteering with Barrie Families Unite, but her journey of service began decades ago.

After first learning about BFU in 2021, Deb followed the organization closely, inspired by its mission. She made a promise to herself: when she retired, she would join. And she did.

Throughout her life, Deb has volunteered with organizations supporting individuals and families facing illness, crisis, and hardship, even traveling to underserved areas of the world on medical missions. For her, volunteering is rooted in gratitude and compassion.

Last fall, that compassion made a powerful impact. A mother arrived at the warehouse with her young daughter to pick up requested winter clothing. Both were wearing only sweatshirts on a cold day. The mother hadn’t requested a coat for herself because she didn’t want to “overstep.” Deb made sure she left with a coat she loved, along with coats and boots for both children.

As Deb helped carry the bags to the car, gratitude turned into tears; hugs were shared between three women who will likely never forget that moment.

“Volunteering has resulted in the ongoing feeling of purpose in my life — of helping people in so many different ways.”

As we celebrate the International Year of the Volunteer in 2026, we thank Deb and all of our volunteers who lead with empathy, action, and heart. 💙

In recognition of International Volunteer Year 2026, Charitable Gaming. Community Good. and the OCGA are excited to introduce The Good We Do, a province-wide contest celebrating Charitable Gaming volunteers and the difference they make in communities across Ontario.

Entering is easy. Visit GoodWeDo.ca and complete one simple statement:

“The good we do matters because…”

Share what volunteering means to you, the impact you’ve seen in your community, or the reason you continue to give your time. You can even include a photo or short video with your entry if you’d like!

And, of course, there are prizes!

One volunteer from every participating Charitable Gaming Centre will receive:

A CGCG volunteer swag bag
A $100 cash gift card
A $100 CanadaHelps Charity Gift Card to direct to an eligible registered Canadian charity of their choice.

Plus, one province-wide Grand Prize winner will receive a CGCG swag bag, a $500 cash gift card and a $500 CanadaHelps Charity Gift Card!

💙 What's Your Why? Let's hear from Chuck.

For an incredible 44 years, Chuck has dedicated his time to volunteerism; embracing the opportunity to give back, build fellowship, and serve others.
What started with a simple question of “Are you interested?” has become a lifelong commitment that has impacted countless lives.

Through leadership in fundraising initiatives, Chuck has helped grow programs, mentor teams, and create lasting change. Most notably, he chaired two major projects for Kiwanis International in support of UNICEF Canada, leading teams that raised over $8 million toward a $200 million global campaign. Which led to achieving the 4th largest fundraising total among Canadian members.

Beyond the numbers, volunteering has given Chuck lifelong friendships, leadership experience, and the joy of seeing others benefit from collective effort.

We’re excited to introduce a new charity awareness sign at Delta Bingo & Gaming Barrie.

This makes it easy for visitors to know who they’re playing for and helps recognize the incredible organizations that make our centre such a supportive and collaborative space.
