Barrie Food Bank

Barrie Food Bank The Barrie Food Bank provides food relief to individuals and families in our community who are in need, and supports them on their journey towards well-being.

Barrie Food Bank’s mission is to provide food relief at no cost to individuals and families of our community who are in need, and to support them on their journey towards well-being. We collect food donations throughout the year, and with a team of 200 volunteers, we distribute this food to over 6000 individuals each month.

🌎 World Environment Day reminds us that every action counts.

At Barrie Food Bank, we see every day how food rescue, waste reduction, and community support go hand in hand.

Through our Food Recovery Program, and in partnership with 15 Barrie grocery stores and our local farmers, we diverted more than 800,000 pounds of perishable food from landfills and redirected it to individuals and families in our community.

The impact goes beyond feeding people:
🌱 Equivalent to planting 20,950 tree seedlings and growing them for 10 years.
🚗 Equivalent to removing 5,225,618 kilometres driven by a gasoline-powered vehicle from our roads.

By rescuing surplus food, we're helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect valuable resources, and build a more sustainable future for everyone.

Small choices. Big impact. Stronger communities. A healthier planet. 💚

Born in England in 1946, Phil immigrated to Canada with his family in 1956 and has called Barrie home since 1985. A proud parent of two sons and a grandparent to four grandchildren. Phil is passionate about community involvement and is also active with The Lions Club of Barrie, The Barrie British Club, and Collier Street United Church. Stocking shelves comes naturally to Phil thanks to his grocery store history, and every section he stocks is always meticulous for our clients.

We are grateful for the kindness, dedication, and community spirit he brings to Barrie Food Bank. Thank you for making a difference! 💙

This year’s are a stark reminder: we’re at a crossroads.
Barrie Food Bank has seen an 11% increase in demand this year, echoing the urgent need for strong provincial action. Ontario maintained a D- since 2024, slightly below the national average.

Canada received a D+ grade, reflecting rising, unaddressed poverty and the growing need we see every day in communities across the country. We must do better, for everyone facing poverty and food insecurity. Join us in calling for meaningful policy change that helps people meet their basic needs and reduces pressure on food banks nationwide.

On Tuesday, Barrie Food Bank joined Feed Ontario and 18 food banks from across the province for a "Day of Action" at Queen’s Park to discuss the growing crisis of food insecurity in Ontario.
We were grateful to meet with Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MPP Doug Downey and Barrie-Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin and to share the realities facing our community as food bank usage continues to rise.

Our conversation included ways the Province can continue supporting individuals working toward financial stability.
Thank you to both MPPs for taking the time to listen, engage in meaningful discussion, and support conversations focused on strengthening our Barrie community.
