Our heartfelt gratitude to Community Foundation of Orillia and Area for its generous donation to Empower Simcoe’s Respitality program as a spring grant recipient!

These much needed funds will go directly toward supporting Respitality, an innovative program that supports parents and caregivers who provide full-time, live-in care for a loved one diagnosed with an intellectual disability. With very limited respite options available, these caregivers often go without meaningful time to rest and recharge. This program helps change that by offering moments of relief such as hotel and spa services, restaurant visits, recreation opportunities, and more. These rare opportunities for breaks support caregiver well-being and help keep families healthy and together.

Thank you, Community Foundation of Orillia and Area for your continued support and dedication to our community!

Please join us in celebrating Kim Stephens, People and Culture Director at Empower Simcoe, on an extraordinary 25 years of dedicated service.

Kim began her journey with Empower Simcoe as a Direct Support Professional in our group living program, later contributing her talents in Community Support Services before moving into a Senior Support Worker role. Her frontline experience, the relationships she built with the people and families we support, and the colleagues she’s worked alongside have all shaped her values, leadership, and deep commitment to our mission of empowering people to lead meaningful and inclusive lives.

“I love working with people - solving problems together, delivering exceptional customer service, and seeing the real impact of our work,” says Kim. “What makes Empower Simcoe an employer of choice is the combination of real opportunity and real people who make a lasting impact every day in our community.”

Kim, thank you for your unwavering dedication, leadership, and passion over the past 25 years. Your contributions continue to make a profound difference in the lives of the people and families we support.

Exciting news! The transformation at the Empower Simcoe EarlyON Child and Family Centre has officially begun! With shovels in the ground, construction is underway for our new inclusive playground at 129 Ferris Lane. Barrie This amazing project, made possible by the Empower Simcoe Foundation's Hooray for Outdoor Play Campaign, will create a vital outdoor space for children and families in our community.

During construction, our EarlyON and OAP Entry to School programs will continue as scheduled. 🚸 Reminder: please be cautious around this active construction zone - fencing is up and vehicles will be moving through regularly. Parking may be limited during this time.

A huge thank you to the Collingwood Firefighters! Participants in Empower Simcoe’s Community Support Services program – Josh, Tyler, Chris, Meghan, and our amazing Community Participation Support Worker Kerri, had an unforgettable day touring the fire station with Town of Collingwood Fire Prevention Inspector Melissa Wonfor. Everyone got up close with the fire trucks and even tested a fire hose! Thank you to the Collingwood Fire Department for you dedication to our community’s safety.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Barrie, for their incredible support! Empower Simcoe Child and Family Services Manager Michele Kapteyn was honoured to accept a generous $2,000.00 donation for the Simcoe County Infant and Child Development Program at Empower Simcoe.

The Valley not only nominated us but also matched this gift through the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation, doubling our impact on local children and families! Your unwavering commitment ensures that every child gets the best start in life.
