Women’s Advocacy Council – Our Voices Our Freedom

Mission: The WAC’s long-term vision for this work is to eliminate the gender gap in public and private spheres.

Out of 26 major cities in Canada, Barrie, Ontario ranked the worst city to be a woman. *The Best and Worst Places to be a Woman in Canada 2019 Katherine Scott - Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives*.

The members of the Advisory Council have come from a broad range of sectors and areas of expertise. They have been selected to reflect expertise in prevention, supporting women, leadership and other system responses. They will also speak to the particular barriers facing diverse groups such as Indigenous women and girls, young women and girls, LGBTQ2 and non-conforming persons, newcomer and migrant women and girls, and women and girls with disAbilities. The goal of the council is to advocate for advancement, increased opportunities, equality, and freedoms for all women and girls through social movement, awareness and democratic activism. Council will share experiences, challenges, and key issues that they face in relation to the gender gap in the 5 areas of, Education, Leadership and Democratic Participation, Economical security, Personal Security and Health.
