Yesterday was soup kitchen day in Caletón.
I’ll be honest - my heart is heavy.
The food that my husband, daughters and I helped purchase is still on its way and did not arrive in time for yesterday’s meal.
The pastors and volunteers gathered what they could and prepared bean soup, homemade bread with little more than flour and water, and juice crystals for refreshments.
As I watched the photos and videos come in, I saw children giving thanks for their meal.
I saw smiles.
I saw gratitude.
I saw people sharing what little they had with one another.
And yet I also know the reality behind these images.
The pastors and volunteers continue to give sacrificially to make sure others can eat. Attendance at the soup kitchens has grown significantly in recent months, and what began as a simple act of love is becoming more than my family alone can sustain.
For more than three years, I have watched this community care for one another through shortages, blackouts, uncertainty, and hardship. Their faith, resilience, and generosity continue to humble me.
These photos are not meant to show what is lacking. They are meant to show the incredible spirit of a community that refuses to stop sharing even when resources are limited.
