As first responders, we're often the ones helping others through crisis.

This week is a reminder that it's okay to check in on ourselves too.

Stress, trauma, grief, and burnout can affect anyone. Asking for help isn't weakness—it's strength.

At BAFRS, we recognize the importance of mental wellness and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

Check in on your friends. Check in on your coworkers. Check in on yourself.
You don't have to carry it alone.

🏳️‍🌈 Why do we still celebrate Pride?

Because there are still people in every community who are afraid to be themselves.
Until the day comes when everyone feels safe, accepted, and able to live authentically without fear of judgment, discrimination, or exclusion, Pride matters.
It sends a simple message: you belong, and you are welcome here.
Sexuality and gender identity do not define a person's character, abilities, or value. What matters is how we treat one another—with respect, kindness, and compassion.

At Barriere First Responders Society, we are proud to support diversity, inclusion, and equality for all. We believe everyone deserves to feel safe, both in our organization and in our community.

We "pride" ourselves on being fully inclusive — pun absolutely intended. 🥰🏳️‍🌈

Today, Margo was working through the driver orientation portion of our vehicle operator program.

Before members are authorized to operate BAFRS vehicles, they complete a multi-step training process that focuses on vehicle familiarization, safe operations, emergency driving considerations, and organizational expectations.

We take driving safety seriously and view responding Code 3 as a privilege, not an expectation. Our goal is to ensure every member has the knowledge, skills, and judgment required to operate safely while serving our community.

Thank you, Margo, for your dedication to learning and helping BAFRS continue to grow!

Barriere First Responders Society would like to extend our sincere thanks to Canadian National Railway Company for their generous $5,000 donation toward the purchase of a shelter for our FR-3 Mobile Medical & Command Trailer.

Protecting our emergency response equipment from the elements helps extend its service life, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure it remains ready when our community needs it most. By keeping FR-3 sheltered from harsh weather, we can better preserve the significant investment made by our donors, sponsors, and community supporters.

FR-3 plays a critical role in supporting medical responses, emergency management, disaster deployments, fire rehabilitation operations, and community events. Having a dedicated shelter means the trailer can remain deployment-ready year-round, allowing our volunteers to respond faster and more effectively when called upon.
CN's support is helping us protect the tools that protect our community.

From all of us at the Barriere First Responders Society, thank you, CN, for investing in emergency preparedness and community resilience.

Barriere First Responders Society is working to complete the next phase of upgrades to our FR-3 Mobile Medical, Command, and Rehabilitation Trailer.

These upgrades will improve our ability to operate during extended emergency responses, community events, wildfire deployments, and disaster operations.

⚡ Current Power System Needs:

🔋 Anker SOLIX Battery Expansion – $1,200

🔌 Samlex SEC-1235P Communications Power Supply – $300

📻 Epic PWRgate Automatic Battery Backup Controller – $250

🔌 Paradan Radio Power Distribution Strip – $150

💲 Total Project Goal: $1,900

Individuals, businesses, and organizations can sponsor a specific item or contribute any amount toward the project.

These upgrades will increase FR-3's available battery capacity while ensuring our communications equipment remains operational during power interruptions, trailer relocation, and emergency deployments.

Every donation, large or small, directly supports emergency response capabilities within our community.

If you would like to support this project, please send us a message.

Thank you for supporting Barriere First Responders Society and helping us continue to build a stronger emergency response resource for our community.

Barriere First Responders Society is looking for a volunteer welder/fabricator to help us build a mast-top antenna and spotlight mount for our FR-3 Mobile Medical / Command Trailer.

The attached image is only a concept/mock-up to show the general idea and intended purpose. We are absolutely open to changes or improvements based on what would work best structurally, practically, and for long-term durability.

The goal is to create:
• A mast-top mounted assembly
• Dual antenna crossbar mount
• Center mounted spotlight platform
• One-piece welded design that bolts to the mast top

This setup would support communications and scene lighting during emergency responses, disasters, deployments, and community events.

We already have the mast, antennas, and spotlight — we are primarily looking for someone with fabrication/welding experience willing to help us bring the concept to life.

If you may be interested in helping, or would like more information, please send us a message.

Thank you for supporting volunteer emergency response in our community.

Barriere First Responders Society has officially deployed the LifeVac device for use in life-threatening choking emergencies.

This wasn’t a decision we took lightly. We’ve taken the time to review available literature and studies, and from that, we’ve developed a policy that reflects current evidence and best practices. As new research becomes available, we will continue to review and adjust our approach accordingly.

In addition, we’ve created a dedicated training course and sign-off process to ensure our members understand when and how this device should be used appropriately within our scope of care.

Our goal is always to provide the best possible care to our community while staying grounded in evidence and responsible practice.

If any organization is looking to implement a similar program, you’re welcome to use our resources or reach out—we’re happy to share what we’ve built.
