๐ŸŽฃ Barrhead Auxiliary Summer: Fishing Weather
Blustery summer Sunday in Alberta Eh!
In Barrhead, we call that completely normal. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŽฃโ˜•
A little wind, a little rain, maybe a forecast with attitude โ€” and the day still goes on.
Boots on. Coffee poured. Stories ready.
Because around here, we donโ€™t cancel summerโ€ฆ we just dress for it. ๐Ÿ˜„
This summer, weโ€™ll be sharing a few lighthearted Barrhead moments, events, summer activities that celebrate the way our community keeps showing up โ€” for the fun days, the busy days, the weather-changing-every-ten-minutes days, and the care-close-to-home days too.
Thatโ€™s the Barrhead way.
Practical. Cheerful. Ready for whatever blows in.

Things that make you go โ€œHmmmmโ€ฆโ€ ๐Ÿค”
And then maybe make you say, โ€œWaitโ€ฆ thatโ€™s actually pretty impressive.โ€

How many active volunteers do you think it takes to help keep a rural healthcare auxiliary moving?

Fifty?
A hundred?
A whole office full of people with clipboards, coffee, spreadsheets, and colour-coded binders?

In Barrhead, the answer is much smaller.

The Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary is a small volunteer group โ€” but the footprint is anything but small.

There are the visible things people may recognize: the Dr. Bose Road to Home Program, helping local cancer patients get to treatment appointments when transportation could otherwise become one more heavy thing to carry.

There are nursing scholarships for Barrhead-area students pursuing healthcare careers as LPNs, RNs, and Nurse Practitioners.

There are comfort projects, staff spaces, patient care items, equipment support, and the little-but-not-little things that make healthcare feel more human right here at home.

And then there are the behind-the-scenes pieces that keep it all moving.

The bookkeeping.
The donation tracking.
The meeting notes.
The forms.
The phone calls.
The project lists.
The restocking of the tuck shop.
The โ€œwho can check on this?โ€
The โ€œwhat needs doing next?โ€

That is where the โ€œhmmmmโ€ฆโ€ really comes in.

Because when you look at the size of the team beside the size of the impact, it does make you stop for a second.

So how does a small group keep this much moving?

Because of Barrhead.

Because behind the Auxiliary is a whole community of support: donors, shoppers, families, memorial gifts, businesses, service clubs, volunteers, healthcare staff, patients, neighbors, and people who simply believe local care matters.

The Auxiliary may be a small group at the table โ€” but Barrhead is the support behind the support.

That is the quiet power of a generous community.

It does not always look flashy from the outside. Sometimes it looks like a donation jar, a tuck shop purchase, a volunteer driver, a memorial gift, a scholarship application, a boardroom discussion, a cheque presentation, or someone saying, โ€œI can help with that.โ€

But add it all together, and suddenly a small group becomes part of something much bigger.

Small Town. Big Hearts.
Support behind the support. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Alberta Rural Health Week | One More Part of the Healthcare Equation ๐Ÿ’™

At the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary, our role is rooted in support.

We support local healthcare through fundraising, volunteer service, equipment purchases, comfort projects, scholarships, care-space improvements, and the practical things that help strengthen care close to home.

But rural healthcare has more than one piece.

For care to remain strong in a rural community, healthcare professionals also need reasons to come, reasons to stay, and reasons to feel connected once they arrive.

That is where the Barrhead Attraction & Retention Committee plays an important role.

BARC helps support the attraction and retention of healthcare professionals in Barrhead by focusing on community connection, welcome, and the local relationships that help people see Barrhead as more than a place to work.

The photos here show some of that story: the faces behind the committee, students being introduced to rural healthcare, and community events that help people experience Barrhead beyond a job posting.

Because choosing a rural community matters.

Some people are born here. Some return here. Some visit, take a position, build a life, raise a family, open a business, volunteer, join a committee, or discover that Barrhead feels like home.

Not everyone who strengthens Barrhead started here.

Some of us chose Barrhead.

And that choice matters.

On the final day of Alberta Rural Health Week, we are proud to recognize BARC as another important part of the rural healthcare picture โ€” helping Barrhead be the kind of community healthcare professionals can choose, join, and stay connected to.

Why not visit their page, say "Hello" and check out what they are up to. And... if this is something that you are interested in, maybe contact them to get involved with the Barrhead Attraction and Retention Committee

What does it look like when a community supports the people who care for it? ๐Ÿ’™

Sometimes it looks like a quiet room where nurses can finally sit down for a few minutes.

Sometimes it looks like a scholarship cheque in the hands of a future nurse.

Sometimes it looks like a sunny courtyard, a garden fountain, a patio table, or a better place for a staff to rest between demanding hours of care.

During Alberta Rural Health Week, the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary is celebrating rural healthcare from the community side of the story โ€” the side that says, โ€œWe see the work you do, and we want to help support you.โ€

These photos show a few of the practical ways Auxiliary fundraising and community support help strengthen local healthcare:

๐Ÿ’™ upgraded furniture for the nursesโ€™ lounge
๐Ÿ’™ nursing scholarships
๐Ÿ’™ Ellaโ€™s Garden and outdoor break spaces
๐Ÿ’™ support for the physiciansโ€™ sleep room

Each project may seem simple on its own, but together they tell a bigger story: rural healthcare is stronger when the people providing care feel supported by the community around them.

๐Ÿ’™ Rural healthcare is care rooted in community.

Weโ€™re sharing this Alberta Rural Health Week story because it speaks so clearly to something rural communities understand: healthcare close to home is built by people who bring skill, commitment, flexibility, and heart to the places they serve.

Chantal Crawfordโ€™s story from Sundre is a beautiful reminder that rural healthcare professionals often wear many hats. They care for patients, support teams, guide services, build relationships, advocate for their sites, and help strengthen healthcare for the future.

Here in Barrhead and area, the Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary is proud to support rural healthcare in practical, local ways โ€” through equipment support, comfort projects, patient care improvements, scholarships, transportation support, and community fundraising.

We are grateful for the healthcare professionals who choose rural communities, serve neighbours, support families, and help keep care close to home.

During Alberta Rural Health Week, we join communities across the province in saying thank you. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™ Paramedic Services Week | Associated Ambulance ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

Yesterday, we shared an image honouring paramedics during Paramedic Services Week โ€” and today, we are pleased to share this reel from Associated Ambulance.

Their name may be familiar from the ambulance in our post, but their work reaches far beyond the vehicle itself.

Inside every EMS response is preparation, training, teamwork, equipment checks, clinical skill, decision-making, and the steady commitment to be ready when a call comes in.

Paramedics provide care in motion โ€” from emergency scenes to safe transport, from patient assessment to working alongside hospital teams and other emergency responders. In rural communities, that readiness matters deeply.

This yearโ€™s Paramedic Services Week theme is โ€œImproving Outcomes, Together,โ€ and Associated Ambulance is an important part of that circle of care for Barrhead and area.

Thank you to the paramedics and EMS teams who serve with skill, calm, and dedication.

Small Town. Big Hearts. Ready When Seconds Matter.

๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™ Paramedic Services Week | Barrhead & Area ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

Before a patient reaches the hospital doors, care has often already begun.

This week, during Paramedic Services Week, we are proud to recognize the front-line paramedics serving Barrhead and area โ€” the people who bring skilled, lifesaving care directly to our roads, homes, clinics, care sites, and emergency scenes.

Paramedics do far more than โ€œdrive the ambulance.โ€ They respond to trauma, cardiac arrests, acute illness, and urgent calls. They assess, stabilize, monitor, administer medications, manage airways, use advanced equipment, and continue critical care while safely transporting patients to the Barrhead Healthcare Centre or to specialized trauma centres in Edmonton.

They also support rural healthcare in quieter ways many people may never see โ€” through inter-facility transfers, community medicine, non-emergency assessments, and care for vulnerable residents close to home.

In a rural community, EMS is one of the strongest examples of healthcare teamwork in motion. Paramedics are often the bridge between home and hospital, between urgent need and next-step care, between a frightening moment and steady hands.

Thank you to rHpAP for highlighting rural paramedic care, and thank you to the Barrhead-area EMS teams for the skill, courage, calm, and compassion you bring to our community.

Small Town. Big Heart. Care begins before the doors open. ๐Ÿ’™

โ€œSome of these tables had been here since 1984.โ€

That single sentence says a lot about how meaningful this upgrade truly is at Keir Care. ๐Ÿ’›

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Camp Creek Community Hall Association, residents, families, staff, and visitors are now enjoying updated dining room furniture, new seating areas, and new dressers throughout the facility.

The donation โ€” made possible through the sale of the Camp Creek Hall โ€” reflects something deeply rooted in our rural communities: people caring for the places and people that once cared for their own families.

As Camp Creek representative David Bain shared, many members had personal connections to Keir Care through loved ones who spent time there over the years. That connection helped guide the decision to give back in a way that would continue supporting residents for decades to come.

The Barrhead Healthcare Centre Auxiliary was honoured to help support this important project alongside Keir Care staff and community partners.

These upgrades are more than furniture. They help create spaces that feel warm, welcoming, comfortable, and dignified for the people who call Keir Care home.

Small Town. Big Heart. Community Caring for Community.๐Ÿ’š
