Emily T. Wierenga writer. artist. president of The Lulu Tree I’m a baker (and breaker) of bread. I used to starve. Now I feed people. I love much, because I’ve been forgiven much.

I like to kiss my husband of 20 years, hug my three kids, snowboard, paint on canvas, read beautiful books, worship on my guitar, write words and travel. You can often find me in my pajamas, staring out the window. Like Burton Rascoe says, a writer is working when he’s staring out the window. My favorite places are the poorest places. That’s where I really sing. When I’m not in Canada, where I liv

Come hungry.

In Commune with Me, I invite readers into deeper fellowship with Jesus through vulnerable stories, soul-deep encouragement, and the reminder that His presence is our daily bread.

A devotional for the weary.
A feast for the soul.
An invitation to draw near.

I'm so grateful for the wonderful endorsements that are coming in. Thank you, Holley Gerth for your generous words and encouragement!

What if communion with Jesus changed the way we loved the world around us?

In this new YouVersion reading plan inspired by Commune with Me, you’re invited into deeper intimacy with Christ — to know His love, His presence, and the beauty of being poured out for others. From our neighbors to the nations around us, we carry the hope of the Gospel to a world longing for living water.

Start the plan today: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/72248-communion-with-a-hurting-world

Pray with me:
Abba, what if that was my boy on the streets? My girl? Wouldn’t I do anything to shelter them, to care for them? Why is my heart so cold? Oh, Father, forgive me. Break me, make me, into walking bread. Let me feed people with Your love.

We all try to fill the void somehow…

More work. More distractions. Another toxic relationship. More control. Yet somehow, we end up feeling emptier than before.

In this powerful conversation, I share my journey from deep brokenness and an eating disorder that nearly took my life… to discovering the sustaining power of Christ.

From missionary life in the Congo to miracles in Africa through The Lulu Tree, I open up about pain, purpose, spiritual hunger, and the authority we have in Jesus to overcome darkness and impact the world around us.

If your soul has been searching for something real, this conversation is for you. If you feel led, will you share this? You never know who might need to hear this.

"Have you ever seen anything so intricately made?" he says. "It's so comfy... You see how the mother put feathers and made it so cozy for her babies. It's remarkable." But then his lined face shadows.

"Unfortunately, she forgot to secure it," he continues. "It was just balancing on a branch. So when the winds came, they knocked her beautiful nest, and probably all her eggs, to the ground. All that work and she forgot to secure it."

And I think of the parable, and I wonder, are we securing our homes to the rock, friends? Or are we so focused on making our babies comfortable with clothes and sports and extracurriculars and material things that we've neglected to secure them to the Word?
