Celebrating Another Year of Bread Rescue & Community Service!

For another incredible year, the Rotary Club of Barrhaven has proudly partnered with Lionhearts Ottawa and COBS Bread Stittsville to rescue bread and sweet treats that would otherwise go to waste, helping support families and individuals across our community.

What started as a simple act of service continues to make a real impact week after week through the dedication of our Rotarians, volunteers, and community partners.

On May 14, we were especially pleased to welcome David Hill - Councillor - Ward 3 Barrhaven West and members of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South who joined us for an evening of sorting, packaging, and redirecting quality food to food banks, shelters, community houses, and support organizations throughout Ottawa.

This growing collaboration between Rotary clubs is a great example of how working together strengthens our collective impact and helps us better serve our communities.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, energy, and heart to this initiative over the past year. Together, we are reducing food waste, supporting neighbours in need, and truly living Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.

Stronger Together in Service

The Rotary Clubs of Barrhaven, Ottawa South, and Ottawa Metro recently came together for a joint meeting to explore new ways of collaborating and strengthening our impact in the community.

With shared challenges and a common commitment to Service Above Self, this was an important step toward building a more connected and sustainable Rotary presence in Ottawa.

Great conversations, new ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose - we’re excited about what’s ahead!

Bread Rescue – February 26 ❤️🍞
Another impactful night at Bread Rescue!
Our amazing volunteers came together once again — and thanks to everyone’s hard work, we filled 15 full bins of bread, buns, and treats for families in need. 🙌🏽💙
A huge thank-you to all Rotarians, friends, and community members who showed up with energy, teamwork, and big hearts. Every loaf rescued means less waste and more support for our neighbors .

🎉 Celebrating 121 Years of Rotary! 🎉
Today, the Rotary Club of Barrhaven joins Rotarians around the world in honouring 121 years of Service Above Self.

Since 1905, Rotary has united people of action to create lasting change — locally, nationally, and globally. From literacy and youth programs to food rescue and community support here in Barrhaven, we’re proud to carry this legacy forward. 🌍💙

Thank you to every member, volunteer, and partner who helps us make a difference.

A big thank you to St. Juan Diego School for welcoming us for this year’s Dictionaries 4 Life presentation today!
Rotarians Peter Van Rijn, Dominic Ofoluwa, and Councillor David Hill had the pleasure of visiting the Grade 3 students and personally handing out brand-new dictionaries to each child, an annual tradition that supports literacy and a love of learning.
We loved watching the smiles as each student wrote their name in their very own book

Thank You, Barrhaven!
On Dec 13, members of the Rotary Club of Barrhaven took part in the Salvation Army’s annual Kettle Campaign, ringing bells and collecting donations to support vital community services.
We’re proud to say your generosity made a difference!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, dropped change in the kettle, and shared a smile. Every little bit helps families in need during the holidays and beyond.
A big shoutout to our volunteers and friends who bundled up and showed up — you are the heartbeat of service above self.

We were honoured to welcome District Governor Graeme Fraser and Assistant Governor Jane Courtice-Neocleous to our club this week. Their inspiring message reminded us that leadership, service, and fellowship are the pillars of Rotary — and that together, we thrive.
We also celebrated a big milestone: the induction of our newest member, Celine! Welcome to the Rotary family — we’re thrilled to have you with us as we continue to serve our community and beyond.
