The Not-For-Profit Frozen Forces Youth Hockey Development Program would like to welcome the Tendo Sprint System into the program. This Sprint System was donated by Tendo Sports to keep our youth engaged in the sport of hockey and keep public interest high despite the challenges Bancroft has been facing with both the cost of the sport and the status of it's Community Centre. Particpants will have the opportunity to use this advanced technology during both on and off the ice testing sessions. Participants will be able to use the system for fun or to help reach full potential.

In addition to the Tendo Sprint System, the participants have earned themselves professional off-ice training programs that are geared towards youth development and are age specific for all positions. Material from these training programs will be used in the Frozen Forces off-ice training programs for all youth age groups.

This past Thursday the Frozen Forces hosted a non-perishable food drive initiative to help replenish a community food cupboard that was stolen from a local church.

The Frozen Forces program recruited new particpants through this initiative to help donate food items, raise awareness for youth hockey in Bancroft, and to welcome participants into the programs pilot project. Collectively, the Frozen Forces program donated 277 non-perishable food items to a local church!

The program would like to send great thanks to Matt Duchene for donating a signed hockey jersey to help raise funds for this program. Matt is an active 15 year NHL veteran superstar hailing from Haliburton, Ontario. Did you know that Matt along with other NHL hockey players donate to the Food 4 Kids charity among other charitable organizations. This has inspired the Frozen Forces Program to incorporate an annual food drive campaign to help support local community cupboards!

The program would like to send further thanks to the NHLPA for their donation package, including an autographed Brady Tkachuck photograph and also the Belleville Senators for a team signed hockey stick and tickets. Also, a huge thank you to our local Bancroft Boyers and NHL Alumni Rob Pearson for donating an autographed Doug Gilmour jersey and other apparel to help support this program.

Last but not least, the program is excited to accept a generous donation from Tendo Sports with a brand new Tendo Sprint System! This will allow the program to offer advanced testing technology through program pilot projects in August 2024, which means the program will be one step closer to hosting its 1st annual Not-For-Profit Frozen Forces Sports Testing Combine in the Town of Bancroft. Stay tuned for more information on the Tendo Sprint System unit in the coming week!

Stay tuned for the August bottle drive to help raise funds for the program and to submit a bulk can tab donation to the Build a Wheel Chair Program!

This past Friday, our Frozen Forces youth participants along with their siblings and parents joined forces with the Bancroft Ontario Provincial Police detachment to do some much needed Spring garbage clean up. Although the sky was filled with heavy clouds, it didn't stop these remarkable young children from sharing some laughs and smiles while they lended a hand to the community. Together all participants were able to collect 24 full bags of garbage from the following locations:

- North Hastings High School to Tim Hortons on Monck Street (Highway 28)
- Canadian Tire and Foodland locations
- South Baptiste Lake Road to Enterprise Road on Y-Road

This is just one of the many ways that the Frozen Forces Youth Hockey Development Program plans to give back to our local community and its sponsors!

We look forward to volunteering with Tim Hortons and the Smile Cookie campaign on Sunday, April the 28th! Remember to stop by your local Tim Hortons to purchase a smile cookie from April 29th - May 5th!

03/26/2024

The Frozen Forces Youth Development Program is a not-for-profit community engagement initiative that was established in 2024. Its focus is to provide young individuals with barrier-free access to hockey and hockey programs, irrespective of their gender, race, socio-economic status, geographic location, or skill level. The program aims to create a positive environment for the youth to build relationships and work collaboratively with local police officers to enhance their hockey skills and increase community engagement.

The program was established in 2024 by Jason Fransky, a native resident of Bancroft and an alumnus of Ontario Provincial Jr.A, NCAA, and OUA Hockey. Following his time as a student-athlete, Jason pursued a career in policing and is currently a member of the Bancroft Ontario Provincial Police Detachment. Bancroft is a small, rural, and low-income community where many families struggle to enroll their children in extracurricular activities and sports. The financial and geographic barriers make it difficult for Bancroft residents to access hockey programs. Jason's goal is to address this issue and provide access to hockey programs for the youth of the community.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Bancroft is facing a difficult situation. Due to the lack of municipal funding and recent increases in overhead costs, they are struggling to keep their arena open. However, our community is coming together to support the arena, as we believe that here in Bancroft, hockey truly is a part of our DNA. To ensure that the youth in our community remain engaged in the sport and that public interest stays high, we have established the Frozen Forces Youth Hockey Development Program. This program provides a safe and fun environment for children to learn valuable life lessons while enjoying the sport they love. Hockey also offers unique benefits to our youth's mental and physical well-being. By participating in the sport, children can develop a range of social, emotional, behavioral, and psychological skills that will serve them well in the future. Ultimately, we believe that supporting the arena and the sport of hockey is a crucial investment in our community's future.

After participating in the hockey program, the young athletes will gain an understanding of the importance of respect, responsibility, and community involvement. They will collaborate with local officers from the Bancroft Ontario Provincial Police Detachment to complete volunteer initiatives. Our community members and businesses have always been invested in shaping our youth into future leaders. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the youth require our support and encouragement to regain their self-confidence and sense of belonging within the community. In a world that has lost its sense of touch and togetherness, we aim to reignite this relationship and foster an inclusive sense of belonging for all through the sport of hockey. By instilling these values in our youth, we hope to pass down this sentiment to future generations and create a brighter tomorrow.

In March 2024, the Frozen Forces Youth Hockey Development Program organized a free 3-day hockey program for 19 young participants. The program included several benefits such as individual hockey sweaters and socks, Timbits and other treats, 4 hours of on-ice training, water bottles, road hockey balls, and numerous other goodies and prizes. These benefits were provided by Tim Hortons Corporate, our local Tim Hortons restaurant owners, Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug Mart, the UOIT Ridgebacks โ€“ Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s Hockey Program, and Ultramar - Home Heating. In return, the youth will participate in volunteering initiatives throughout the Town of Bancroft to demonstrate their gratitude towards the sponsors, the community, and the sport of hockey.

The Frozen Forces Youth Development Program is excited to plan and organize new hockey programs! Our goal is to keep local youth interested and engaged in the sport while fostering positive relationships and teaching valuable life skills. We believe this program will be an excellent opportunity for young people to develop their hockey skills and grow as individuals.

Don't be surprised if you see our young Frozen Forces hockey players sporting their Tim Hortons Jerseys while completing their volunteering initiatives in the community.
