Help Us Find a Home for a New Beginning – Rising Above FSJ Needs Your Help

Rising Above FSJ is actively searching for a suitable residence in the Fort St. John area to launch an exciting new initiative: a men’s sobriety, personal development, and job readiness training program designed to help men rebuild their lives with purpose, structure, and hope.

We are looking for:
• A large house or suitable residential property
• Ideally donated or made available free of charge
• Located either on an acreage or within Fort St. John city limits

This home would become a place where men can pursue sobriety, develop life and work skills, and prepare for a healthier, productive future.

If you know of a property, have a lead, or would like to partner with us in this vision, please contact us directly or message us here.

Together, we can help create a pathway forward for men seeking lasting change.

RAFSJ Update – A New Season Ahead

It has been a while since we last shared an update, and we want to take a moment to bring you into what has been unfolding here at Rising Above Fort St. John.

Since the beginning of this year, several key developments have led us to seriously consider a new direction for RAFSJ.

First, our application with the Assisted Living Registry (ALR)—which would have allowed us to welcome up to six women into our supportive recovery residence in Baldonnel—has now been declined twice. Despite ongoing efforts to seek clarity, including reaching out to our MLA and the Minister of Health, we have not yet received clear reasons or a path forward. While we remain committed to understanding this process, it has created significant limitations for moving ahead as originally planned.

Second, over the past year we have seen very limited interest from women applying to the program. Many who did apply were unable to follow through due to family dynamics, particularly involving children. At the same time, we consistently received approximately three inquiries from men for every one from a female applicant.

This led us to explore transitioning toward a men’s program at our Baldonnel location. However, after discussions, our landlord has chosen to keep the residence designated exclusively for women.

As a result, we are now actively exploring a new path forward.

We are currently looking for a separate residence where we can begin a men’s initiative. Our vision is to establish a structured day program alongside a sober living home for men. This model would allow us to operate under the Residential Tenancy framework, rather than the Assisted Living model, and continue serving those in need without the current regulatory barriers.

We believe the need is real, and the opportunity to make an impact remains strong.

We ask that you continue to stand with us in prayer as we navigate this transition. If you are aware of any housing opportunities or connections that could support this next step, we would be grateful to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and belief in the work of Rising Above.

After careful consideration, and due to the low number of tickets sold, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the Lido event scheduled for December 21.

If you purchased your ticket through The Lido, refunds will be issued directly by them. Tickets purchased through Rising Above (via e-transfer or cash) will be fully refunded by our team.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who supported, shared, and participated. Your encouragement and willingness to stand with us truly means a great deal, and we are deeply grateful for this community.

We’re taking the next step in building a brighter future for our residents — and we need your help!

Rising Above is launching a home-baking initiative to provide hands-on skill-building and job-readiness training — while also generating revenue to help sustain our programs. To make this vision a reality, we’re seeking support in acquiring a Rational Combi Oven — an essential tool that will allow our residents to learn valuable kitchen and business skills while producing delicious baked goods right here in Fort St. John.

The oven costs between $8,000 and $10,000, and every contribution, share, or connection brings us closer to making this dream a reality.
