🎓 University of Waterloo Campus Tour!

Are you in Grade 11 or 12 and starting to think about university? Join us for a guided campus tour at the University of Waterloo!

Explore the campus, learn more about university life, and get a chance to ask questions. We’ll also enjoy lunch together after the tour! 🍽️

Yesterday we kicked off AI Explorers+ Tier 3, and we’re really proud of how it went.

A group of high school students spent their Halloween afternoon with us at the University of Waterloo. We started with what AI actually is, how it learns and where it gets things wrong, and by the end everyone had written their first lines of Python.

After class, one of the parents, who’s an instructor herself, told us she was surprised by how quickly we got through the basics and how well they were taught. That meant a lot coming from someone who teaches. Most of the credit goes to Burak Kahraman, our Lead AI & Machine Learning Instructor, who taught the class, and to Ahmet Cungurlu, who assisted.

Thank you to the students for spending Halloween with us, and to the parents for trusting us with their Saturdays. Nine more to go.

📚⚽ Football for Learning | Education Update

Thursday evenings are learning time for our Football for Learning students!

Every week, students from Grades 1 to 12 come together at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute in Kitchener for free academic support.

With the help of our teachers, assistant teachers, and volunteers, students work on math, English, reading, writing, science, and ESL. There's time to ask questions, go over challenging topics, and get a little extra help when needed.

And learning doesn't stop in the classroom! 💻 Online sessions and IXL give students more opportunities to practise and keep learning throughout the week.

A big thank you to our educators, volunteers, students, and families for the time and effort they put into the program each week. 💙

🥧 A Slice of Culture, A Moment of Connection!

Last weekend, our GRFS Cooking Class brought us together to explore a delicious Canadian tradition: Pumpkin Pie!

Beyond learning a new recipe, we shared stories, laughter, and conversations around the table, reminding us that food is one of the simplest ways to connect across cultures.

What we enjoy most about these classes is seeing people come together over food, learn something new, and get to know one another. It’s a simple way to celebrate different traditions, build friendships, and help everyone feel welcome.

🌱 Great Mentors Never Stop Learning!

On October 10–11, 2026, 18 women mentors from GRFS travelled to Ottawa for the Mentor Convention, organized by Northern Lights Educational Services (NLES). The two-day gathering brought together 96 participants from different cities to learn from one another and exchange experiences.

From building stronger mentor–mentee relationships and setting healthy boundaries to improving communication skills and connecting with parents, the sessions offered valuable insights and practical ideas for everyday mentorship.

Mentoring is as much about learning as it is about guiding others. Having the opportunity to share challenges, hear different perspectives, and reflect on our own approaches makes that work even more meaningful. 💛

A big thank you to NLES for bringing everyone together and to all the mentors who contributed their time, experiences, and ideas!

Last Saturday, our students came together for a fun Halloween pumpkin-carving competition ! 🎃
