Our family attended the “Quebantic” (Quebec/Atlantic) Retreat in New Brunswick this past week. It’s a gathering for all of the full time missionaries who serve with One Hope Canada from this region.

You may be thinking “One Hope Canada - question mark?” It’s the organization that Cape Breton Bible Camp is a part of (we’re going to share more on that in the next few weeks).

We look forward to these get togethers each fall - enjoying rest & fellowship with like minded people who are also coming off of a busy summer camp season. The theme of the week was our identity in Christ. It was a great reminder of all that we have in Jesus, and where we should put our hope. We got to share the highs and lows of our ministries and have lots of time to pick each other’s brains on how to make our camps better. We always come back with an idea (or five), and feeling encouraged and excited for the future of camp.

Pray for our assistant directors Ibrahim & Sara as they head back to Africa today. They have 3 little girls and you might’ve noticed Seth in the photo too and that’s because everyone’s favourite counselor is heading there with them for 6 months to help out with Justice Water and the kids ministry there!

Pray for their flights, for everyone settling back in, & for the ministry there. We sure will miss them all!

Wow! It’s hard to believe another camp season is in the books. Hundreds of campers came through the property, and God faithfully provided everything we needed. There’s much to look back on and be thankful for ☺️

The only photo I captured at teen retreat (and had to post because someone made the comment “that’s going on facebook” 😂)

Why divide 75 people into 4 teams when you can divide them into 2 gigantic ones instead? We’re not sure who let Josh Oakes be in charge but we have to say, he gave everyone a super fun weekend!

We loved having everyone back for one last hurrah. We were cold. Friendships were strengthened. We laughed and worshipped and played crazy games and enjoyed all the usual camp things 💪

Thank you to everyone who helped out with music, speaking, cooking, and to all the young adults who came back (even though they all have regular jobs now, too). And to everyone who thinks directors just drink coffee, the 4 of us started the summer on cleaning crew, so it was fitting that we finished it that way, too ☕️ 🚽 🧽

Next summer marks 60 years of Cape Breton Bible Camp! As we look back over 60 years of God’s faithfulness to this ministry, we need your help.

We would love any camp alumni to send us their favourite camp photos, stories, and/or quotes. We know a lot of things may not be digitalized, so even a photo of a photo will do, or a voice memo if you can’t type out the story. If you can, include names or what is happening in the photos, and the approximate year.

Family Camp 2026 is in the bag! 🫶

21 families showed up, and we had such a great weekend together. That’s exactly 100 people, all under one roof for the entire weekend.

The forecast was pretty accurate, and we got somewhere between 250–300 mm of rain. We had flash-flood conditions that nearly washed out the road, enough water to flood the chapel basement, and a little excitement when we lost the use of the toilets for a while.

Victoria County declared a state of emergency, but our biggest emergency at camp was having to cancel Inverness dodgeball because the competition couldn’t agree. (Repeat after me: we love each other.) 😂 I guess that’s what happens when several wildly competitive generations get together in one room.

We ate yummy food, Ross shared from God’s Word, and Nick & Bethany ran an awesome program. We had good fellowship, intense competition, and eventually Team 2’sday came out on top.

All in good fun, of course.

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this a weekend to remember. We’re so thankful for each of you!
