Family Central Offering hope for people facing poverty, homelessness, mental health, and addictions in our community

09/03/2026

Some people understand the power of hope because they have had to find it for themselves.

Olivia is one of those people.

Her own experiences with addiction have shaped the way she connects with the people who walk through the doors at The Family Central. She knows what it feels like to face challenges that others may not always understand, and that lived experience has become a gift in the way she supports others.

What stands out about Olivia is the way she sees people—not as the mistakes they have made or the circumstances they are currently facing, but as whole people with stories, strengths, and the ability to move forward.

During her time at The Family Central, Olivia has grown in confidence as a support worker, but she has also become a source of encouragement for the people she works with. She reminds others that everyone has made mistakes, that every journey looks different, and that needing support does not mean someone has lost their chance at a better future.

At The Family Central, we get to witness moments of hope every day. Moments where someone takes a small step forward. Moments where someone starts to believe that change might actually be possible.

As we move closer to Journey for Change, Olivia’s story is a reminder that we never truly know what someone else has walked through. But we can choose to meet people with compassion, listen without judgment, and believe in the possibility of something new.

Because every person deserves the opportunity to write the next chapter of their story.

Every great team needs someone behind the scenes keeping all the details organized—and at Family Central, that someone is Juanita! ❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for the organization, care, and attention to detail she brings to everything she does. But even more than that, we’re thankful for the kindness and warmth she brings to our team each day.

So much of what happens at Family Central starts behind the scenes, and we’re lucky to have Juanita helping keep it all together!

Thinking about joining Journey for Change but not sure if you should register as an individual or a team? Here’s the breakdown:

👤 Individual Registration
When you register as an individual, all of your sponsorships stay under your name. You’ll fundraise and track your progress separately—perfect if you’re looking to set personal goals and rally your own network of supporters.

👥 Team Registration
When you register as a team, you and your group pool your sponsorships together into one “pot.” That means bigger combined impact, plus a little friendly competition as you see who in your team can raise the most! It’s also a great way to join forces with friends, coworkers, or family online to boost your fundraising power.

No matter how you register, your steps, pedals, and fundraising directly support the families and individuals who rely on Family Central. 💛

So—are you going solo or building a team this year?

Journey for Change was created with a simple idea: sometimes understanding begins when we are willing to step into something unfamiliar.

The distance we walk, run, or ride is not meant to represent the experiences of the people we serve. We know that a few kilometres can never compare to the challenges many individuals and families carry every day.

But it can remind us.

It can remind us to slow down, to listen, and to consider the realities that exist around us—even when we don’t always see them.

Journey for Change is about more than movement. It’s about choosing compassion. It’s about creating conversations. It’s about standing beside our neighbours and reminding them they don’t have to walk through difficult seasons alone.

This September, we invite our community to take a step with us.

Because every journey begins with someone willing to walk alongside another.

Stories like this remind us that healing isn't always about one big moment—it’s often about having people who continue to show up, listen, encourage, and walk alongside you.

Everyone who comes through our doors has a story. Some chapters are marked by loss, struggle, or isolation. Others are filled with growth, hope, and new beginnings. More often than not, they're a mixture of both.

At Family Central, we believe that every person deserves a place where they are seen, valued, and supported—not for who they might become, but for who they are today.

Thank you to the individuals who trust us with their stories, and thank you to the community that makes support like this possible.

Every person who makes up the Family Central team brings something a little different to the table, and today, we’re happy to introduce you to Karolyn!

Karolyn brings so much warmth and care to the Family Central community—and we think you’ll enjoy getting to know a little more about the person behind the work.

This is awesome! On Saturday this young man worked hard and battled the heat to raise funds for the Family Central.

But this is more than a kid selling lemonade to raise money, it’s a picture of what Family Central stands for: neighbours noticing one another, caring for one another and doing what they can to help.

We love seeing the next generation step up and embody the kind of community spirit we never want to lose – small town, big heart!

There are so many people behind the heart of Family Central, and today we’re excited to introduce you to one of them!

Sean has been part of the Family Central team as our Program Director, and we’re grateful for the care, encouragement, and perspective he brings with him each day.

We’re lucky to have people like Sean walking alongside our community.
