CLINICIAN BIOS:
Ryland B. Edwards DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, Dipl. ACVSMR
Dr. Edwards grew up in Virginia and gained exposure and a desire to pursue veterinary medicine by working in his father's veterinary practice..
Ryland's veterinary education began at the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1990. This was followed by an internship, residency, Masters of Science, and clinical instructorship at Cornell University. He achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1996 while working at Belmont and Aqueduct racetracks in New York.
He was most recently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he completed a PhD in veterinary science.
Dr. Edwards has been actively involved in research of equine upper airway disorders, fracture healing, and the management of cartilage injury. His clinical interests are focused on surgical disorders and the diagnosis and management of poor performance in the sport horse.
When Dr. Edwards is not busy at Fairfield Equine, he enjoys time with his wife, Lynn, who is also a veterinarian, and their three boys. He tries to stay fit through running
Justin Argent — Professional Farrier
Based in Uxbridge, Ontario, Justin Argent began his farrier career in January 2001 and was mentored by Barney Cummings and Luke Proulx. His farrier practice serves the Greater Toronto Area, with regular work in Wellington and Ocala, Florida.
Justin was one of the farriers on site at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and has extensive experience shoeing horses competing at the highest levels of equestrian sport. His clientele includes top dressage riders Jamie and Tina Irwin, as well as high-level eventers and select show jumpers.
Among the notable horses Justin has cared for is Laurencio, ridden by Tina Irwin, who won individual gold in dressage at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Justin was also a founding member of Foot for Thought, a collaborative group of farriers and veterinarians dedicated to advancing education within both professions through educational clinics and the exchange of knowledge. I’m
