Globally, there are around 59 million refugees, with many countries refusing to accept them. Ajmal’s family from Afghanistan, currently in Türkiye, face dire conditions, including the threat of deportation and limited access to jobs and services.

Canada does accept refugee applications, and Arnprior has a history of welcoming newcomers. This community has a history of supporting refugees including the Al Issa family and Jean de Dieu Basabose. As more people around the globe are pushed from their homes and seek refuge, we have an opportunity to welcome them to our supportive and beautiful community here in Arnprior.

Arnprior Cares is supporting Ajmal and his family to make our wonderful town home. We have already raised $28,771 for their sponsorship but need an additional $20,000 to cover their living expenses in Türkiye and their journey to Arnprior.

We are seeking larger donations or support in organizing an event to help raise these funds. Pictured are some of our existing donors including the Northern Credit Union and the Arnprior Rotary Club. If you are part of an organization that would like to support our work, please reach out.

Donations can be made by cheque payable to Arnprior Cares or by e-transfer to [email protected]. Tax receipts are available for donations over $20. Please include your full name and address for receipt processing.

I would like to invite you to participate in an online survey between November 1, 2024, and November 30, 2024.

The purpose of this survey is for Local Immigration Partnership to gather information on your experience as a resident of Eastern Ontario. The valuable information that you provide will then be used to help us better recognize what makes the Ottawa Valley so attractive to newcomer and immigrant agricultural workers like you.
