Exciting news! ✨ The Spring 2026 issue of The Argus (vol. 38, no. 1) is at the printer and will be on its way to our society members shortly. In one of this issue’s historical pieces, we revisit the year 1900 with one of our board members, Leona Doucette, who recounts the story of and her connection to a woman who disappeared from East Pubnico over a century ago: Rosalie Amiro. Here’s a little preview of the article along with one of its featured photos (courtesy of Leona):
“Rosalie (d’Entremont) Amiro was born in Lower West Pubnico on May 3, 1820. […] At 25 years old, she married Sylvain Amiro (1814-ca. 1904) and, at some point, the couple moved into a house at 18 Harbourview Rd. in Lower East Pubnico, located near the Shelburne County line and across from Pubnico Harbour. […] It would seem that Rosalie led a perfectly normal, fulfilling life. But on Wednesday, July 25, 1900, at the age of 80, she left her home and disappeared without a trace. She and the possessions on her person at the time were never seen again.”
