This spring’s mock search brought teams together in Guysborough County!

We were joined by members from Pictou County Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue and our local RCMP to locate our missing subjects in Larry’s River.

New members in command and on the ground got to focus on new skills and operations. The team had excellent training grounds to work on comms, navigation, first aid and extraction.

A long 2km extraction was a test of endurance and team work (and patients with the abundance of black flies)!

RMCP had their drone operator flying and it was a pleasure to collaborate with other teams, services and skills sets.

We train to keep our skills sharp and stay prepared for when you need us most.

Nice day for a wash, after getting a little dirty during our mock search training last weekend!

We will hosting a mock search tomorrow (Saturday May 16th). You may see increased activity of SAR and RCMP personnel. This is a collaborative training exercise used to hone the skills of our emergency responders and work together with other agencies to build on our teamwork and operations.

Mock Search I

We train. And we train again.
In March, SAGSAR members had a mock search right in our backyard. Teams were able to combine all the skills that they work on throughout the year, honing them in to then test them in the field together!

Members practiced command post set up, compass, and GPS navigation, search techniques, clue awareness, communications, first aid and extraction.

It was an excellent full scale training scenario led by our fantastic training officer. It’s an honour to train, so that we are ready when you need us.

Found Safe!

The child reported missing from Antigonish, on April 1, has been safely located.

The RCMP thanks Nova Scotians for assisting with missing person files through social media shares and offering tips.
