Today was one of those days that reminds you exactly why we do what we do and why our fire service family in Antigonish Town and County is something special.
Earlier today, Antigonish Town Fire Department received the initial call for a wildfire. Responding alongside them were Four Valleys Fire Department, Antigonish County Fire Department, and North Shore Fire Department, while St. Andrews Fire Department stepped up to graciously cover our area while crews were committed to the incident. RCMP also responded to assist with traffic control, while DNR was called and remains on scene.
The fire is now under control and considered out.
When a call comes in, nobody asks whose district it is, who gets the credit, or whose name is on the truck. People simply show up and get to work. Today was a perfect example of that. Firefighters, RCMP, and support agencies came together as one team with one mission — protecting our communities, our homes, and each other.
People often only see the lights, the trucks, and the smoke, but they don’t always see the countless hours of training, the missed family time, the commitment, and the dedication that make days like today successful. The reason this fire didn’t become something much worse was because of the quick actions, teamwork, and professionalism shown by everyone involved.
As someone who gets to stand beside these people, I can say without hesitation that Antigonish County is incredibly fortunate. Today made me proud — proud of our departments, proud of our members, and proud to be part of a service network that always answers the call and always has each other’s backs.
To everyone involved today — firefighters, RCMP, DNR, and everyone supporting behind the scenes — thank you for your service, your commitment, and for everything you do for our communities.
