Join our mural jury!

Antigonish Culture Alive is looking for a local artist in any discipline to join our team of thoughtful jurors to choose the 2026 Antigonish Public Art Commission mural.

This year's jury is composed of representatives of the Antigonish Culture Alive board, Antigonish Creative Dance Association, the Town of Antigonish, and a local artist. Members of the jury will have the opportunity to view and access mural applications through Google Drive, and then will meet once or twice in-person for a collegial discussion which will end in the selection of the new 2026 public mural, which will be installed in Antigonish in spring 2027.

This is a paid position open to artists living in Antigonish town or county. The juror cannot be an applicant to the 2026 Public Art Commission and must be available and flexible to meet in person in an evening in November.

Interested applicants can email their artistic resumes with a brief statement about their interest in serving on the jury. Please apply by October 9th, 2026.

We've extended the deadline for our call for submissions for the 2026 Town of Antigonish mural! Send us your mural design by October 7, 2026.

The Town of Antigonish, supported by Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA), is seeking submissions for their 2026 Public Art Commission. This is a Nova Scotia-wide competition, with preference given to Antigonish Town and/or County residents, for professional (as defined by Canada Arts Council Guidelines) and emerging artists (an artist developing their portfolio and gaining experience, self-taught or formally educated).

The 2026 Public Art Commission celebrates the 50th anniversary of Antigonish Creative Dance Association (ACDA). ACDA provides a comprehensive program in which dancers of all ages, but in particular young people, can find their physical voice.

The chosen artist will be paid $4000 for their final design and creation, or $5000-$7000 for a mural painted in situ.

Proposed mural location: the eastern wall on the side of Antigonish’s landmark store, 5c-$1.

Size: Approximately 75-130 square feet.

Antigonight Art After Dark Festival is thrilled to partner this year with Antigonish Film Connection for their first ever Antigonish Film Festival! This phenomenal FREE event takes place THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, Sept. 25 and 26, and features local and Atlantic filmmakers and films.

We are disappointed that the wind has not been cooperating and Antigonight has to once again cancel Andrew Maize's kite installation that was postponed until today. BUT we are still basking in the glow of an amazing art festival, and are so excited to continue the Antigonight fun and creativity next weekend with Antigonish Film Connection 's first ever Film Festival!

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, we have to postpone Andrew Maize’s kite-flying art installation again. Not enough wind today! We will welcome Andrew back to Antigonish for this installation at a later date.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but please enjoy more great programming next weekend at the Antigonish Film Festival on Friday, September 25th and Saturday, September 26th, 6-9pm both evenings.
