Because in him all things are being redeemed. Because of his life. Because of his death. Because of his resurrection. Because he is with us. He is our pastor. Our teacher. Our counselor. Our healer. Our lord. Our saviour. Our hope. Here becaus

e we are a church. Because together in the Spirit we are united as one. Because together we are able to listen to the Spirit’s leading. Because together the Spirit is making us whole. Because together we are the body of Jesus, with all our diversity and gifts. Because together in our brokenness we find life. Because together in our weakness we find strength. Because together we embrace mystery. Because together we walk in God's faithfulness and trustworthiness. Because together we submit to the Holy Scriptures. Because together at the Table we find Jesus. We are becoming a people who are learning to love Jesus more fully. Becoming a people who love others. Becoming a people who live on mission. Becoming a people who share our stories. Becoming a people who live God's kingdom. Becoming a people of ridiculous generosity. Becoming a people who serve locally and globally. Becoming a people who value simplicity. Becoming a people who laugh, play, cry, and live life together. Here because we love this city. Because we believe there's a better way. Because we have so much to learn.

On Sunday, Krista continued in our Guiding Values series looking at our Safe Space Value. She reminded us that we need to feel safe to be able to thrive. She shared how throughout Scripture people made people feel safe - not judged. Not hated. Not condemned. Safe - so they can be free to. thrive.

At AVC, we are sorry so many feel unsafe. We are striving to be a place all people feel safe in. Just as Jesus taught us to do.

(As you read your Bible this week - look for examples of how Jesus made people feel safe.)

This past Sunday, we heard from Mark Jefferson who shared about our Guiding Value: Listening to the Spirit's Voice. Mark reminded us that God not only listen to people but He talks to them also. He shared Scripture examples of God talking to individuals in 1 Samuel 3 and in Acts 15 about collective listening and discernment.

Mark recommends as a great resource as we each explore and grow in our listening to the Spirit's voice.

It's the summer and hard to even remember what day it is. - but here are three things we think you'll want to take note of that are coming up at AVC:

Let's sing it together now: "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name..."

And, we love being known by our name at Church - but is that it? Join us this Sunday, July 26 at 5pm as .koch preaches in our Summer Series on our guiding values. This week she'll share how church is more than a place where people know your name. It's a place where people truly see you, know your story, recognize the gifts God has placed within you, and help you become who He created you to be.

A benediction by AVC member Naomi KH:

With Pride month just past and Disability Pride month happening right now....

Let us walk with Jesus throughout the next week.

Let us ask Christ to help us see those we come in contact with the way He sees them.

Let us treat others with the love, grace and respect Jesus treats all of us with.

Let us celebrate the diverse way God has created each one of us.

Let us share the hope we have in Christ with those we meet with our actions toward one another and with the words we speak to each other.

Go in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in peace.

Amen

This past week, Timothy shared about our Guiding Value of Practicing Faith Together. He reminded us that Spiritual doubt is a universal experience, but processing it within a community can be the difference between isolation and deep transformation. We do not treat questions as a weakness, but as a shared, normal part of the human journey.

We can have doubt IN community. We can have doubt AND community. We do not have to wait until we have it all figured out before we can belong. Jesus' example was that he welcomed questions and doubts in the midst of a welcoming, genuine community.

We strive to do the same.

Spiritual questions and doubts are welcomed at AVC.

This Sunday (July 19) Timothy Powell will be preaching - continuing in our summer series looking at the guiding values that make up AVC. He will be looking at the value of We Practice Faith Together:

"At AVC you do not have to put on a facade; you can be yourself. We want to be a space for people to belong as they reflect on their faith and the church. AVC is a place for those who are tired, have been wounded, and looking for something fresh.

We create space for discussion and asking questions. We talk about current issues in our world that matter. Our approach to the authoritative, inspired, and sacred Bible is that it offers us stories and insights into this great project called life. We share our lives with each other, submitting our circumstances to ask each other for help, to listen, and to walk with us in faith. We’re not afraid of admitting that we may not always have the answer."

Join us Sunday, July 19 at 5pm to take a closer look at this value that shapes AVC.

A couple weeks ago, Aaron preached on our guiding value: "Jesus is our Pastor". In his sermon, he recommended. this book: "Can You Hear Me?" by Brad Jersak. In this book, Brad Jersak lays out the biblical foundation for the practice of listening prayer. Aaron encouraged us to practice listening to Jesus as we pray and letting Him guide.

In Brad's book he says: ""I believe Jesus is saying to you today, 'I am your friend. I am not your psychic hotline. I'm not interested in impressing you or making you seem impressive to others. I want intimacy. So before you rush ahead and ask me to lay out the future of the world for you, would you be willing to be my friend for a while? Would you like to hear my feelings and sorrows, joys and hopes?'"
