Beautiful morning at Holiday Beach. Bob Hall-Brooks set up hummingbird banding by the tower. So far he banded 3 young males and recaptured one banded last year.

The rain forecast for this morning did not happen and the Nectar Festival proceeded as planned. The hummingbird banding went off with a bang as we tied our previous record day with fourteen banded. One adult male, two adult females, three young males and eight young female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds visited our traps between 8:00 a.m. and noon. My one regret was that the rain in the forecast kept a lot of people at home and they missed a great opportunity to see these delightful little birds up close. Those who came out despite the weather forecast enjoyed the spectacle. Big thanks to Ojibway Nature Centre for hosting, and to Michelle Mastellotto for acting as scribe for the event freeing me up to band and answer questions.

HUMMINGBIRD BANDING
Finally little busy morning. From Bob Hall-Brooks.
First of two young males caught this morning, three ruby gorget feathers, 3.19 grams. Second young male of the day had no gorget feathers but five o'clock shadow on the bird. Third young male had two ruby gorget feathers, 3.27 grams.
