Maggie's Place Cumberland

Maggie's Place Cumberland "Because being a parent is the finest, most important work you will ever do..." Welcome! If so, Maggie’s Place WELCOMES you!

Are you looking for a place to relax, chat with other parents & caregivers, or just have some “adult time”? We offer a place away from the routines of home, where you and your children can play, learn, and meet other parents. Maggie’s Place also offers FREE programs for adults and children including prenatal/postnatal support, child development programs for preschoolers, and programs for school ag

ed children, youth and teens. Maggie’s Place will gladly answer your questions regarding parenting, pregnancy, nutrition, and many more issues. A Family Resource Centre is a warm and welcoming place in the community where any family member can go, not only in times of need, but as a regular part of day-to-day life. Family Resource Centre’s offer parent education classes, child development activities, parent-to-parent support groups, health information, referrals and many other programs, activities and services. These services are modified and added to, depending on the needs and desires of local families. Family Resource Centre’s are unique in their approach to working with families: they build families’ strengths and capacities, serve as a hub for the community, work for positive social change, and offer help in a supportive environment. Parents act as resources in many capacities, from serving on a decision-making board, participating in Centre programs and learning job skills.

Lunch, Learn & Parent On!!!
Your Lunch Break Just Got a Little More Helpful.

Working parent? Busy Parent with a tight schedule? We get it! Between deadlines, school drop-offs, meetings, appointments, activities, and everything in between, finding time for parenting support can feel like one more thing on an already full to-do list. So, why not use your lunch break?

Join us Wednesdays, once a month (September 23 • October 21 • November 18 • December 2) from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at Maggie’s Place (11 Elmwood Drive) for Lunch, Learn & Parent On!—a practical parenting series created with busy and/ or working parents in mind, while welcoming all interested parents and caregivers.

We'll make the lunch, you take an hour for yourself, and join the conversation. Each session tackles a real-life parenting topic with practical strategies, helpful information, and ideas you can take back to your family.
Register for all or just one or two sessions by calling (902) 667-7250

**Session #2 — Cracking the Kid Code** Wednesday, October 21**

From first words to teenage eye rolls, every stage comes with its own language!

**Session #3 — Discipline: It’s Not About Punishment**Wednesday, November 18**

Ever wonder if you’re disciplining or just punishing? Let’s break it down!
Take an hour to explore practical ways to set boundaries, handle challenging behaviours, and turn tough moments into learning opportunities—without the constant battles, guilt, or power struggles.

**Session #4 — Parenting: Know Your Village** Wednesday, December 2**

Parenting can feel like a lot—but you don’t have to do it alone! Spend your lunch break discovering the local programs, services, supports, and resources available to help your family thrive. Maggie’s Place had the honor of hosting our very first Connecting Cultures Event last Friday, and what a turn out we had! Guest facilitator, Heather Matthews of Wasoqopa’q First Nation lead the afternoon with an opening prayer and smudge and throughout the afternoon, folks were invited to learn more, while making their own wrapped feather, and medicine pouches. Bannock was served as a snack, with take home bags that had all the ingredients to make at home. We had such an amazing day, and hope all who came out did too. Big thanks to our partners, Cumberland County Museum and Artifacts, S.O.A.R. Community Health Board, Cumberland YMCA, Anchor Youth Space Cumberland, and the Town of Amherst - without all of your hard work and partnership, we couldn’t have pulled off such a great event. And an even bigger thanks to all who came out. Wela’lioq (Thank You).

A huge shout out to the Cumberland County Animal Hospital for hosting free movie nights at the Rotary Park this summer for families and for raising $500 through concession sales to go towards our Back to School program. This donation arrived just when we needed it as we wrap up the program after providing over 400 backpacks with school supplies to students in Cumberland County.
