Livingston Outdoor Adventures

Livingston Outdoor Adventures Livingston Outdoor Adventures Inc. is a charitable organization that offers youth serving agencies the opportunity to bring their kids to experience nature

Situated on the border of beautiful Fundy National Park in Alma, New Brunswick Camp Livingston is found in a pristine wilderness setting surrounded by forest and overlooking a beautiful lake. Camp Livingston is a charitable camp organization serving youth and children from numerous non-profit organizations throughout the Southeastern portion of the province. Founded in 1972 the camp first served t

he Moncton Boys and Girls Club, but in 1995 Livingston Outdoor Adventures Inc. (LOA) was created to broaden the camps service mandate to the benefit of numerous other children and youth serving agencies. Our facilities are fully equipped with a kitchen, electric heat, telephone, sleeping quarters, open indoor spaces for dinning and activities, plenty of outdoor space, beautiful lake for boating and fishing activities, washroom facilities, hiking trails, several authentic teepees and a campfire pit for all to enjoy! At LOA we believe every kid should have the opportunity to experience an outdoor adventure. We are committed to helping make this resource available to all youth serving agencies in our region, offering them quality facilities, and abundant resources to strengthen and expand their own programs and activities. Camp Livingston not only provides non-profit agencies with an affordable program setting, it also helps set the stage for special service delivery options and resources not found it the traditional urban setting. This outdoor experience is often the only wilderness exposure many urban youth experience. With the many of our users coming from at-risk and marginalized neighborhoods and households, this setting provides our partner service agencies a unique educational opportunity to engage them in a setting that removes them from the often negative backdrop of their daily life. In addition to the significant social development opportunities a camp experience can offer, there is considerable evidence that concern for the environment is based on affection for nature that only develops with autonomous, unmediated contact with it. It is only by intimately learning about nature in a meaningful setting that will lead our youth to a full appreciation of nature and the need to protect our environment. In 2011, due to financial constraints, the camp was in danger of closing, so the Greater Moncton Progress Club was engaged to adopt the camp and help bring it back to a sustainable level. With the help of the Progress Club the camp has received a much needed boost in financing, governance structure, grant applications, repairs and renovations to bring the camp back up to a respectable level of repair allowing for attraction of some new NGO partners to use the property.
