What did we bring back from the 2026 World Food Forum in Rome? 🌍
From 12 to 16 October, one of our volunteers represented ACTLAB at the World Food Forum and the Rome Water Dialogue at FAO Headquarters, under the theme "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow."
Key reflections:
• Research should lead to action and real change in communities
• Young people should lead, not just participate
• Inclusion must be real: young women, informal learners and diverse knowledge systems all belong at the table
• Technology should be built with communities, not only delivered to them
"Closing the digital divide is not just about expanding access to technology, but about who gets to build it."

Qu'avons-nous rapporté du Forum mondial de l'alimentation 2026 à Rome ? 🌍

Du 12 au 16 octobre, l'un de nos bénévoles a représenté ACTLAB au Forum mondial de l'alimentation et au Dialogue de Rome sur l'eau, au siège de la FAO, autour du thème « Innover aujourd'hui. Nourrir demain. »

Nos principales réflexions :
• La recherche doit mener à l'action et à un vrai changement dans les communautés
• Les jeunes doivent diriger, pas seulement participer
• L'inclusion doit être réelle : les jeunes femmes, les apprenants issus de parcours informels et la diversité des savoirs ont toute leur place
• La technologie doit être construite avec les communautés, et pas seulement pour elles

« Réduire la fracture numérique, ce n'est pas seulement élargir l'accès à la technologie, c'est aussi décider qui la construit. »

It’s Day Four of the World Food Forum and Rome Water Dialogue 2026, and Lorenzo’s last day! He shares: “Day four at the FAO World Food Forum centered on three core pillars that lie at the very heart of ACTLAB's mission: sustainable capital allocation, system-wide innovation, and inclusive leadership. The morning opened with a high-level session on the Blue Transformation, illustrating how aquatic ecosystems offer a vital frontier for food security when backed by targeted, long-term investment models. Discussions then shifted toward the structural limitations of current research and development frameworks. Panelists underscored the urgent need to rewire how public, private, and scientific sectors collaborate, moving away from fragmented initiatives toward truly scalable innovation. The day concluded with a powerful celebration in the Plenary Hall honoring FAO’s 100 Women Heroes. Recognizing these leaders serves as a reminder that structural transformation in agrifood systems is impossible without empowering the women driving change at the grassroots level. For ACTLAB, today’s discussions reinforce a clear mandate. Solving global agrifood challenges requires moving beyond legacy frameworks to build bolder investment partnerships and champion inclusive leadership across the value chain.”

Après Nkambe, nos ateliers d'IA se poursuivent au Cameroun ! Les 10 et 17 octobre, ACTLAB a organisé ses premiers ateliers à Yaoundé, coordonnés par un Volontaire en ligne des Nations Unies et une équipe d'animateurs bénévoles.
Les participants ont découvert l'intelligence artificielle, réfléchi à ses risques et à ses bénéfices, et échangé sur la manière de l'utiliser de façon responsable et éthique.

After Nkambe, our AI workshops continue in Cameroon! On 10 and 17 October, ACTLAB held its first workshops in Yaoundé, coordinated by a UN Online Volunteer and a team of volunteer facilitators.
Participants learned about artificial intelligence, reflected on its risks and benefits, and discussed how to use it responsibly and ethically.

Day Three of the World Food Forum and Rome Water Dialogue, and Lorenzo has some exciting updates for us: “Day 3 at the World Food Forum 2026 at FAO Headquarters highlighted key progress across agrifood investment, youth-led innovation, and women's empowerment. Session discussions included the presentation of national agrifood investment plans for Central Africa alongside the High-Level Event on capital investments for Blue Transformation. Further focus was given to female entrepreneurship with the launch of the fifth round of the Accelerator Mentorship Programme for Women-led SMEs in Africa, providing an opportunity to connect with Ms. Yolande Nankeng, founder of Extrait Végétal Sarl. Institutional engagement progressed through the presentation of an idea to alleviate malnutrition in Cameroon to FAO. Additionally, initial dialogues were established with youth- and innovation-focused NGOs to explore potential collaborative frameworks. Ahead of tomorrow's schedule, a meeting is set with Ms. Anamaria Loboguerrero, Division Director at the Gates Foundation, to present ACTLAB and the Morality Code AI.”

Welcome to Day Two of the World Food Forum and Rome Water Dialogue! Lorenzo has had “another inspiring day focused on international cooperation and innovation for the future of agrifood systems. Attending the Official Opening of the Hand-in-Hand Initiative Investment Forum highlighted the critical need for global synergies to drive sustainable investment. Between sessions, I connected with NGOs and startups from around the world to introduce Action Lab for Development and share how our Morality Code AI project can play a pivotal role in enhancing food security. I also had the privilege of joining a thought-provoking meeting with the Tanzanian Delegate to the FAO and the Delegate of Cameroon to the FAO, discussing how government support is essential to amplify the values and impact of NGO-led initiatives. Finally, participating in the Scaling regional investment for systems transformation in Southern Africa session was a great opportunity to contribute to the discussion and learn about new strategic starting points for regional development. Events like this reinforce that technology, governance, and cross-border collaboration are the true drivers of lasting impact.”

It’s Day One of the 2026 World Food Forum and Rome Water Dialogue, and Lorenzo has had a very productive day. He shares: “I had the pleasure of participating in the technical panels at the Rome Water Dialogue, a valuable opportunity to engage with ministers, industry experts, investors, and young leaders on the latest innovations and water policies.
In recent years more than ever, water is not only an essential resource, but it has become a complex geopolitical issue and, unfortunately, a source of conflict. For this reason, ensuring fair regulation and sustainable distribution must be a shared goal that brings all countries to the dialogue table. The day then continued with the Grand Opening of the World Food Forum (WFF), where young scientists and international leaders shared revolutionary ideas, cutting-edge research, and concrete visions to transform our agrifood systems toward greater sustainability and equity. To close the day, in the splendid setting of the FAO terrace, I had the opportunity to engage in an informal yet constructive exchange with key international delegates and officials. A unique occasion to share perspectives on the future of food security and multilateral cooperation. The key message is clear: the interconnection between water resources, innovation, and food demands immediate, systemic, and collective action.”
