In Loving Memory of Cal Nichols

It is with profound sadness that the Cure Cancer Foundation acknowledges the passing of Cal Nichols.

Cal was incredibly supportive of the community in many ways throughout his life, one of which was being a founding member of the Day of Golf. He worked to get it started and supported it for over 40 years.

Cal was also the 2024 Toast of the Town honouree.

He was a dedicated member of the community, and he will be deeply missed. Cal is survived by his wife Edna, his kids, Ken and Kristine and five loving grandchildren. Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.

For 41 years, the Glenn Anderson & Oilers Alumni Day of Golf has brought leaders, supporters and members of the Edmonton hockey community together to advance cancer care at the Cross Cancer Institute.

This year, that tradition continued, raising over $825,000 to expand our work with Dr. Michael Chu and bring life-saving CAR T-cell therapy closer to home for multiple myeloma patients. Funds raised will help build an Edmonton-made CAR T-cell clinical trial from the ground up, focused on patients with advanced myeloma who have very likely run out of treatment options.

As a beneficiary and philanthropic partner, we are deeply grateful to Cure Cancer Foundation, the Day of Golf committee, Oilers Alumni, patrons, sponsors, volunteers and golfers who made the event possible.

More than $20 million has officially been raised through this event over its history. That is what long-term community leadership looks like: people returning year after year, rallying others and helping move progress forward.

Thank you for powering progress for Albertans facing cancer.
