Barrie Stafford coined a new term – The Province of Champions – and brought together, in the way that he does, people who continue to make it happen.
These guys! They're superstars and have a far bigger impact on your life than you realize.
You don’t want to have to meet them (in a hospital), but odds are two out of every five of you will. And if you do, you'll be glad you did.
Dr. Kyle Potts, Dr. Matt Anaka, Dr. Michael Chu, Dr. Kevin Hay, and Dr. John Walker are a few of the clinicians and scientists from Calgary and Edmonton cancer hospitals doing ground-breaking work on immunotherapy.
They take T-cells from your body, modify them genetically, then reintroduce them into your body to fight your specific cancer. The side effects are much, much lower, and survival rates are much higher. Plus, their technology saved our health care system $12M last year. (How do they not have banners at Roger’s Place?)
To get this far, they relied on the roll-up-your-sleeves-and-open-your-wallet Alberta attitude. To go further, they need your help to continue their research into using this treatment to treat more types of cancer, conduct trials and find ways to scale this work to reach more adults and children.
