Lindsay’s Camino: The Journey Has Begun........
Nine hours. 30°C heat. A 1,430-metre climb through the Pyrenees. And that was just the beginning.
Earlier this week, Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation Board Member Lindsay Bigioni began her Camino Francés across Spain - walking to help fund three new ECG machines for Ajax Pickering Hospital.
Her first few days have already tested her.
Crossing the Pyrenees meant breathtaking views, exhausting climbs and moments when Lindsay wondered whether she could keep going.
“Huge horses and cattle roamed freely throughout the mountains, sometimes walking right beside us. The journey has been humbling, exhausting and incredibly rewarding.”
But every difficult step has a purpose.
Heart disease took both of Lindsay’s parents. Today, she walks in their memory, in gratitude for the extra years cardiac care has given her mother-in-law, and for every family in our community hoping for more time with someone they love.
