In early 2025, we found ourselves at a difficult crossroads. For years, our safety company quietly absorbed the full financial and liability costs of running the Not-So-Spooky Haunted House and Christmas Eye Spy so the community could enjoy them freely. After the pandemic, however, our safety business never fully recovered—at times facing losses close to 90%. Covering more than $30,000 each year for these events was becoming impossible without jeopardizing our own stability and the work that supports our family.
We were fortunate to receive some sponsorship support over the years, and we are genuinely grateful for the kindness and encouragement that came with it. That generosity helped us keep the events going as long as we did. But even with that support, it wasn’t enough to offset the full costs, the mounting liabilities, and the yearly expenses that continued to rise. Ultimately, we had to acknowledge that relying on donations and sponsorships alone was no longer sustainable.
As we began reviewing everything with honest eyes, one question kept coming from the community: “Are you doing (the Haunted House and/ or Christmas Eye Spy) this year?” The short answer is yes—but not at our home.
We didn’t want these traditions to disappear. They had become part of our hearts, part of our creativity, and part of many families’ holiday memories. Instead of closing the chapter, we chose to dream even bigger. We created a plan to transform these experiences into something more sustainable, more magical, and more accessible year-round.
A key part of that transition meant finding a proper indoor commercial space. We searched extensively for a home in Airdrie—our own community—but unfortunately, no locations met the safety, size, and layout requirements for what we envisioned. The only viable option was in Calgary, where we finally found a space that allowed our creativity and safety standards to come together:
Quest World Family Entertainment
Unit 4, 2010 30 Ave NE, Calgary
We know that change can bring mixed emotions. Some people were disappointed by the shift from free admission to standard pricing, and a few comments during Halloween were especially hard to hear. But we want to share our hearts openly: the only reason the events were free in the past was because they were fully subsidized for charitable purposes. That spirit hasn’t changed. We are still committed to giving back and continue supporting charitable causes in meaningful ways.
The difference now is simply sustainability. Our pricing is aligned with other family attractions in Calgary and reflects what it takes to keep these experiences safe, creative, and financially viable. It ensures we can continue building something special without carrying an unsustainable personal burden—and it keeps the magic alive for years to come.
And outside of the Halloween and Christmas seasons, we’re excited to offer something new at our Calgary location: family-fun escape rooms designed to spark imagination, teamwork, and laughter. They allow us to keep providing memorable experiences for families year-round while we prepare for our seasonal favorites.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has encouraged us, believed in us, and shared this journey with us. Our heart for families and community connection is as strong as ever. We hope you’ll come visit, explore, and create new memories with us as Quest World grows into its next chapter.
