As we move into the hot summer months, reliable access to water remains essential to keeping BC farms productive and resilient.

One simple way you can help support BC farmers and local food production? Let your lawn go golden this summer.

Watering a one-acre property for the minimum recommended 1 hour per week uses approximately 102,233 litres of water. Even watering a typical city lot of about 7,200 square feet uses about 16,900 litres.

By reducing household water use during the summer, more water remains available to help farmers grow the food we all rely on. Letting your lawn go dormant through the hotter months is an easy way to support agriculture while helping conserve a vital shared resource.

The good news? Your lawn will bounce back with the return of fall rain — and you’ll get a break from mowing, too!

Small actions at home can make a meaningful difference for BC farmers, ranchers, and the long-term resilience of our food system.

A great day for BC Agriculture Council’s President Jennifer Woike to attend Dairy Day at the Legislature, hosted by the BC Dairy Association, highlighting the important role dairy plays in B.C.’s agriculture and food system.

And of course, no Dairy Day would be complete without enjoying some delicious ice cream provided by BC Dairy while recognizing the hard-working dairy farmers across our province who provide us with the dairy products we enjoy every day.

Thank you to BC Dairy for organizing this year’s event and helping bring industry and government together for important conversations about the future of agriculture in B.C.
