IEEA Sponsor Spotlight ✨

A heartfelt thank you to MentorAbility, our returning Venue Sponsor for this year's Inclusive Employer Excellence Awards (IEEA).

MentorAbility is helping create more inclusive workplaces by connecting employers with the skills, talents, and contributions of people with disabilities.
MentorAbility provides in-person and virtual mentoring experiences with a specific focus on facilitating unique, short-term (from 1 hour to 1 day) mentoring opportunities between employers and people with disabilities.

Their sponsorship plays a key role in bringing the IEEA to life. Together, we're celebrating the employers across Abbotsford and Mission who are setting the standard for accessibility, inclusion, and workplace equity.

October is Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) Awareness Month!

Did you know that the RDSP is the world's first savings plan specifically designed to help people with diverse abilities save for the future?

An RDSP can help your savings grow through personal contributions, government grants, and bonds. Depending on your income and eligibility, contributions may qualify for government support that can significantly increase the value of your savings. Once invested, those funds have the opportunity to continue growing over time.

🔍 Did You Know?

• It's best to start as soon as possible! You are no longer eligible to receive government grants or bonds after the calendar year in which you turn 49.

• If you have a low income and cannot contribute to an RDSP yourself, the government may still contribute through the Canada Disability Savings Bond. Individuals with an income below $31,120 may qualify for up to $1,000 annually for up to 20 years, while those with incomes between $31,120 and $47,630 may qualify for a partial bond.

Our BBQ & AGM had some extra special touches this year! The beautiful flower holders, X & O games, and giant Jenga set were all handcrafted by Oliver from Surrey Home – with some help from John and Nick. Lots of planning and hard work went into these projects, including cutting and painting 300 X’s and O’s for the event.

Thank you, Oliver, for helping make our event extra special and for creating the legendary Jenga game everyone enjoyed!

Today, we got to experience a wonderful gift. 💜

Marilyn McGee was supported by Bethesda for nearly 50 years. She loved seeing children have fun and enjoy life. And that happiness was contagious to those around her.

After Marilyn passed away, her family wanted to donate to Bethesda in her memory. A bouncy castle was the perfect choice keeping her spirit of fun and joy alive for all to enjoy.

On this sunny September day, the Family Support team inflated it for the first time and invited folks from Tapestry CI and the office to come out and give it a try.
The bouncy castle has already brought plenty of smiles, and it will bring many more to the people in the Bethesda community in the years ahead.

A sincere thank you to Marilyn and her family for this thoughtful gift and for helping us carry a little piece of Marilyn’s story forward. 💜

The ladies and staff at Chilcotin are excited to welcome a new housemate into their home in October! 🏠💜🍂

When Rick discovered where he was moving, he gave an enthusiastic cheer! He already knows a few of his new housemates through different community connections over the years, which made this transition extra exciting.

On the first visit, he has already started making this his home by placing one of the tractors from his collection on the shelf - and he can’t wait to bring the rest over! He checked out the raspberry bushes in the backyard and explored his new room.
His future housemates had Rick’s favourite food ready for his welcome lunch, along with a special dessert to celebrate! 🎉

Welcome to Chilcotin Home, Rick! 💜

Wow! This year’s BBQ & AGM amazed us! 🎉

Attendance far exceeded our expectations! 300 joined us and we are so grateful for each and every one of you! It was so impactful to witness the inclusive community that you all have helped build.

It was such a wonderful evening! There was delicious food, beautiful items at the Self-Advocate Pop-Up Market, and so many fun games. One of the highlights was a great game of giant Jenga. A crowd formed and cheered with every pull. And just when you thought the tower would tip, it continued to stand!

Later on in the evening, we took time to reflect on the past year and celebrate the recipients of the Staff Excellence Award and Community Impact Award. Thank you, Dana Baker and Brian Doerksen [awarded posthumously], for the amazing difference you make in this community!

We can’t wait to do this again next year! 💙
