Aide for Paws & Rescue Society

Aide for Paws & Rescue Society Aide for Paws & Rescue Society is a small non-profit organization that works primarily with special needs & senior animals.

There has always been a special place in our hearts for special needs animals. In 2017 our family lost our first special needs dog (epilepsy, was partially blind & deaf) and felt it appropriate to officially start this organization not only to honor her memory but to also help other special needs animals. Aide For Paws does accept local owner surrenders into our foster and adoption program, howeve

r, as we are a foster based rescue and do not have a facility, we are only able to accept animals if we have an available foster home that suits the animal's needs. We also create fundraising events year round to help raise money for registered non-profit animal organizations. Not only do we raise money but we also collect donations of new and gently used pet supplies, as well as food, for those in need. Our charity is based out of Abbotsford, BC Canada and happily supports other local charities in need. If you are a registered non-profit organization in need of assistance please send us an email at [email protected]

It has been brought to our attention that our rescue's information & logo have been stolen by someone trying to scam & profit from selling shirts & mugs printed with A4P on them.

This is a scam and we have NOT given any consent to Pawsome T-Shirts to use our logo or make shirts for us. Wanting to spread the word so no one purchases items from this "company" thinking they are supporting our rescue.

In addition to this we have been informed of someone replying to many comments on our older posts trying to sell supposed A4P merch. This also is NOT us. We do have A4P swag available for purchase (such as shirts, tanks, hoodies & mugs) but we would NEVER advertise this by replying to a comment made by one of our followers & sending a link.

Thankfully this was spotted by a director of another animal rescue organization (their organization was also targeted) and she sent us a DM. The post & page have been reported and the post is no longer there but please be diligent when coming across posts or stories similar to this as countless rescues & shelters are experiencing scammers just like this.

Goose update

We received Goose’s biopsy results this week. The good news is we ruled out a lot of bad things, however, the source of her ongoing nasal discharge is still unknown. Goose is still having a bit of sneezing but she is as happy as ever. Last week we discovered she is a huge fan of Amazon boxes 😹

As always sharing a copy of the report for those who love the technical stuff.

Will keep everybody updated on Goose‘s progress and hopefully she will be bo**er free soon!

It’s another hot one today! With the temperatures rising well over 30° we wanted to sent out a friendly reminder to be more mindful of when you are walking your dogs.

Here are a few safety tips for keeping your dogs safe in the heat. Our rule of thumb is if it’s too hot for hands or feet it’s too hot for paws too.

Apparently, after coming home from the vet yesterday, Goose and I snuggled too hard and accidentally fell asleep and forgot to post an update oops 😂

Goose did very well for her procedure yesterday. Dr G went deep into her nasal passages, but unfortunately the only thing he found up there was a copious amount of thick nasal discharge. He flushed out both nostrils with saline and took biopsy samples from the right side, which we are sending to the lab for a histopathology just to make sure there is nothing else going on inside that bad nostril. Crossing our fingers, hoping that flushing everything out will resolve her chronic nasal issue and there is nothing concerning on her biopsies.

Once we get the lab report back, we will post another update.

And of course, had to share another cute photo of our Goose gal who is in fantastic spirits this morning and being ever so affectionate. Also sharing a copy of Dr G’s endoscopy report for everybody who is interested and a copy of the invoice from Goose‘s procedure

Thank you to all of the staff at Kent Veterinary Clinic and Coquihalla Veterinary Clinic for taking such good care of our gal for us 💜

Our big floof has been officially scheduled for her nasal endoscopy with specialist Dr Gorodetsky from BC Mobile Animal Endoscopy. Her procedure date is April 28th and hopefully Dr G can figure out the cause of Goose’s nasal issues.

The estimated cost for endoscopy is just over $1300.

How can you help?

It’s been a while since we have made an update about our sweet gal Goose.

Goose came to us last year after we received a phone call from a veterinarian on the island asking if we could take her into our program as her previous owner was contemplating euthanasia due to ongoing nasal issues. At only five years old we knew this girl has so much more life to live so we open our home with open arms.

Since she arrived last year Goose has made several trips to our medical team. She received a cardiac ultrasound as she did have a pre-diagnosed heart murmur. The good news is her heart is great & only has a minor issue and no medications needed. a couple of months after she arrived. Goose did have a flareup of nasal discharge so we performed an upper respiratory panel. This came back as test testing positive for mycoplasma and she was treated with a couple of rounds of appropriate antibiotic antibiotics.

All was well at A4P HQ until recently, we had another flareup of nasal discharge and sneezing. Goose was placed on another round of antibiotics, however, it only has seemed to get worse so yesterday we paid a visit to the wonderful Dr Ricka at Kent Veterinary Clinic and Coquihalla Veterinary Clinic

After a thorough check and discussion with the doctor, it was determined that Goose should have a procedure called endoscopy performed. This is when a tiny camera is inserted into the nasal cavity to try and find out the reason for her ongoing issues. As the discharge is still only coming out of one nostril we suspect that there might be something stuck up there though there is always a possibility that it’s not a foreign object and something like a polyp or even a tumour.

Dr Ricka is calling in the big guns for us - endoscopy specialist Dr Eugene Gorodetsky from BC Mobile Animal Endoscopy. I have personally had the pleasure of assisting Dr G on several procedures when I worked in a veterinary practice and know if somebody is going to figure out the route of Goose’s nasal issues it’s going to be him.

Now with that being said the procedure is not cheap as Goose will need to be under anaesthesia in order for the specialist to go on a hunting expedition. We are hoping to have her procedure done as soon as possible and are waiting on a date for the specialist to see her as well as a copy of the estimate. Once we have received more information we will definitely share another update.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this adorable photo taken at the vet clinic yesterday. Goose is such an amazing cat with the sweetest personality and definitely deserves the very best
