Abbotsford Community Garden

Abbotsford Community Garden This volunteer run community garden provides small plots of fertile soil for organic gardening.

The community garden concept is straightforward - provide a small patch of fertile soil and the knowledge and tools to grow a productive garden. Since 2008, the Abbotsford Community Garden has been doing just that. Located on City of Abbotsford property, it is an initiative developed and run by volunteers. We currently have about 150 plots being used for organic gardening by city residents. The ob

jective of the Abbotsford Community Garden is to create space for people to learn about and participate in some of their own food supply - planning it, planting it, helping it grow, and reaping the benefits of their labour. Our community garden has given a unique opportunity to a wide cross-section of Abbotsford residents to come together and garden as neighbours. People of every age, ethnic background and gardening experience are participating. The Abbotsford Community Garden on Delair Road is evolving into the community centre that we originally envisioned.

We had another heavy-duty workbee on March 28th. What a great turnout!

Members who came to help worked tirelessly to clean up debris and even rescue fences that had floated into the swamp. It was no easy feat! Being strong wasn’t the only requirement: they also had to have great balance so that they would not slip and slide in all the mud! Most of all, they had to care.

Look at those smiles! The message is clear: “Teamwork leads to success. We did it!”

Thank you for all your hard work!

REMINDER: TODAY'S WORK BEE WAS BY INVITATION ONLY. THE GARDEN IS STILL CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Great progress considering there were only nine of us here today. This is what we started off with. Actually, that's wrong! Some BOD members have been "prepping" lots before today, in particular, our tireless president!

REMINDER: TODAY'S WORK BEE WAS BY INVITATION ONLY. THE GARDEN IS STILL CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

What do you do on the most beautiful day we have had this year? Go for a walk? Lunch on the deck? Pickleball? Nah, start the massive cleanup of the community garden which was horribly impacted by the flood AGAIN!!!

Great crew of volunteers today flexed their muscles! All their muscles! Way to go!!!

Our community garden suffered extensive damage during the recent flood. As a result, we will focus our time and effort on clean-up and restoration this year. Regretfully, we will not be accepting new gardeners this year. Please feel free to check back next year.

Our dedicated Food Bank team members, led by Mike and Holly, have been growing and harvesting lots of delicious, organic vegetables to donate to Abbotsford Food Bank. Yesterday’s donation alone included over 120 pounds of carrots, beets, kale, cabbage, green beans, squash, and tomatoes. Well done, team!

A huge thank you to Alain for sharing his pictures.
