Central Fraser Valley Woodcarvers

1) We have weekly meetings to socialize, learn from each other and share experiences, tips & techniques;

2) We also hold carving courses and seminars on a variety of projects - these courses are run by an experienced member of our club;

3) We offer our members many resources from our extensive library of books, magazines, patterns and ideas for new projects;

4) Our monthly newsletter will keep

all members up-to-date on Club news and Events;

5) We also liaison with many other Clubs from the Pacific Northwest and across North America;

6) Our Annual Woodcarvers Show is a great opportunity to showcase our members efforts and traditionally attracts many carvers items from BC, WA and beyond!

The sun was shining and the chips were flying tonight at Jim's place. While we had a number of members away on vacation, our usual club photographer was stuck somewhere in traffic between Richmond and Abbotsford. It was great that (thanks) Grant stepped in and made sure we got some photos to share tonight!

Some photos of this week's 'carving at Jims' on Wednesday evening, courtesy of Roy. Nice to see 10 or 12 members out enjoying the nice weather while chipping away at various projects, and also showing a few recently completed pieces!

As the weather continues to warm and the evenings provide lots of light for carving, we encourage everyone to join with us and keep those carvings coming!

Smaller group of us out for the first Wednesday outdoors, perhaps the cooler grey weather kept some carvers under cover?

Regardless, those there had a nice chance to chat, catch up, talk carving and other things along with some actual carving!

Hope we see more members out to enjoy Jim's hospitality and carve under the evening sun as the weather continues to improve into summer!

Tonight was our final carving night at Yale Secondary school until the fall. Thanks to Roy for stepping in and providing pictures of some busy Club beavers working on their carvings tonight!

While we won't be carving in the school for awhile, we will be carving outdoors again during the summer months. Special thanks, as always, to Jim for sharing his carving space with us (Roy will provide more details in the next few days).

2nd last meeting night tonight at Yale Secondary school before summer break begins! Just 1 more week inside and then we'll transition outside at Jim's, as of the first Wednesday in June.

Hoping to see everyone out next week, if not, we hope you'll join us at Jim's to chip, chat and chuckle during the nicer evenings (Roy will send additional details out to everyone in the near future).

It was a 'sleeping bear' kind of evening tonight as we had s few members trying their hands at carving a sleeping bear from willow branches. Some great progress was made, we look forward to seeing how they progress over the next week.

Also nice to see a few other projects (not bear related) being worked on by other club members.

As is our tradition, following the Club business, there's a chance to show off carving projects during Show & Tell.

A nice selection of completed carvings were displayed and discussed, along with some WIPs (works in progress) for viewing and discussion. The variety and creativity of Club projects and materials is always great to see and provides others with new ideas of their own!

Last night was our last monthly business meeting of the school year (until we return to Yale in the fall) and as usual, there's was plenty to talk about! More details coming to members in the Club meeting minutes, but we are working hard to keep the Club busy and visible to woodcarvers and supporters alike.

Reminder that we have 3 more weeks left in the Yale wood shop before we head outside for summer carving at Jim's!

Along with our normal night of carving and conversing, we also had the pleasure of providing a couple of visitors with an overview of woodworking and our Club.
Gwyneth was visiting from Singapore & her friend Samra lives in Burnaby. They had asked if they could visit and learn more about woodcarving.
Roy did a stellar job in sharing his knowledge while he also introduced them to other club members who answered any other questions they had regarding the types of woods used and carving in general.
